By his rule of not killing would he technically be able to kill a robot as it not being a human? Or does his rule bind him to not killing any type of living thing (except for Darkseid)

I don't think he would have a problem offing a machine, unless it was a half human hybrid like Cyborg, then the no kill rule would still apply.

Well for sure in any animated medium Batman destroys robots simply because thats when Batman gets to let loose (due to censorship rules), however in comics I haven't seen any Batman story where he struggles with the humanity of a robot. But then again the only two robots that have a conscience like humans that I can think of are Red Tornado (does his family have that same level of humanness?) and Metallo. Both I don't see Batman killing anytime soon.

@rustyroy: @uncleemu: I'm playing this video game right now, Binary Domain, where there are these humanoid robots, but they don't know they are robots. Reminds me of Blade Runner a bit.

I could totally see a decent Batman mystery involving a search for hidden android sleeper agents.

Off topic: didn't Ridley Scott announce he was going to do another Blade Runner movie?

@batshrine: I think you're absolutely right about how robots are used in the animated series.

... and Batman struggling with the humanity of a robot sounds great! If the humanity of the robot is well established, and believable, this could be an amazing story.

Assuming it was a self aware AI with free will and consciousness, that'd actually make for an interesting story.

Batman has destroyed plenty of robots, right? But Cyborgs are half-human so he'd avoid that.

BUT what do you guys think he would do with an Android who believes he is human? Or a character like Red Tornado, or Marvel's Vision? Personally I think he'd avoid 'killing' them if it would be impossible to bring them back.

@consolemaster001: holy crap, I have that book. I vaguely remember, the robot was at the beginning right? It's what leads Batman to Spawn. I'll dig it out. Written by Frank Miller, you're right it was pretty bad. I did find it funny in spots... like how Batman talked to Al.

@consolemaster001: It was a cyborg in the Batman/spawn crossover. Dr. Margaret Love used her Heal The World organization to take advantage of New York homeless and then used them in her sick experiments.

And for the record Batman did not try to kill it: "A cyborg of some kind -- It's human part deprived of free will. Stop it-- Disable it-- don't kill it."

and later: "A self-destruct sequence. Free what's human. Saving his life may still be possible."

I'd like to see a story where Batman struggles with the humanity of an A.I.

He killed Amazo in Under The Red Hood, so I think he'd be fine with killing robots.
