Best: Chuck Dixon/Alan Grant/Denny O'Neil/Paul Dini (they're the best deal with it)

Worst: Kevin Smith/Scott Snyder (since the start of New 52)

    Potential: Jeff Lemire

Why people hate Jeph Loeb? I can't understand he wrote masterpieces in Batman history

    • Misuse of supporting characters,Loeb has a filthy habit of spamming the reader with dozens of characters who have no reason to be in the story and not just that he cant even write them properly.
    • Poor lead villains, supposedly brilliant but very ill defined in terms of personality, motivation and ability.
    • Blatant ripoff, watch Godfather and Silence of the Lambs.
    • His 3 major stories are actually just one story retold multiple times.
    • Lousy mysteries that collapse at the climax
    • I've heard that Loeb intentionally kept changing the identity of his villains/clues every time fans started catching up to him,a good writer should be honest with the fans and focused on writing his story not cheap twists.

Most people are treating this like its all time best worst for every character Loeb, Morrison, and miller have each given more to batman than arguably anyone other than Bob Kane has especially miller. Now Leob and miller have gone off the edge and written some absolutely terrible stuff and Morrison is only for a few people who like his style. So even if you don't like them that should keep them from being the worst. Unless for miller you have only read dark knight strikes again and all star batman robin then hate away.

Favorite: (I don't have a best) Alan Moore and Scott Snyder (not of all time just off the current writers)

    Worst: Geoff johns

    Most potential: Geoff johns

The only way Geoff johns can write really well is if he gets to reinvent the character and start a long form story with them. Since he can't do that to batman he just isn't good at writing him. earth one was a huge step in the right direction but it was just one story so far hopefully after a couple of volumes it will be great.

Worst: grant Morrison. I just thought the only good thing that he did was introduce Damian as Bruce's son. I hate almost everything else he's done in batman.

Best/Potential: Snyder and Judd winick. Favorite story is under the hood and I love what's been going on in new 52. The only thing I don't like is mr. Freezes new origin.

@batzilla: All Star Batman and Robin has some of the WORST of all time dialogue and writing I have ever seen in a Batman comic, it goes against literally everything that Batman is all about. Do yourself a favor my friend and stay as far away as possible from it. Here is a quick sample if you're curious (this isn't even the worst from it)

That'd mean it'd have to be set in the 1960s, right?

Given that DKR clearly takes place in 1986 (Raegen as president, Gordon refers to being in WW2). Meaning Bruce is born in 1931.

You would think that yeah but it is really confusing because even though All Star has a younger Batman as well as Dick Grayson as Robin, it is set in a more modern time period which makes no sense if All star is suppose to be in the same continuity as TDKR, even though Frank Miller specifically stated that it was set in the same universe, so long story short-Miller flubbed it up

Or that he just got lazy.

Mathematically, it adds up that Bruce was born in 1931 and Gordon in 1916 - but Miller got lazy. I don't regard it as part of the DKR canon, it doesn't make any sense to be.

@frozen: Indeed my friend, that's probably the best way to go about it-don't put All Star anywhere near TDKR (in fact I think it's better to just pretend it just doesn't exist)

It really baffles me how good stories TDKR and Batman: Year One are and to even think that All Star had anything to do with it

Wasn't Year One written originally as New-Earth canon?

I don't know what Miller was even thinking with that crappy dialogue, but I can't believe that is in the DKR version - I mean he kills Dick Grayson in The Dark Knight Strikes Again (lousy writing), as Dick had become The Joker - but after reading All Star, I can see why Dick became how is in The Dark Knight Strikes Again.

Miller should have left DKR alone, because that was really a good story.

To me, All Star was just imaginary. Because Miller must have been smoking pot when he wrote that.

    Worst- Doug Moench, Ugh.

Best- Scott Snyder (great so far, Black Mirror is top 5), Grant Morrison (Love everything he's done, even Gothic), Paul Dini ( Heart of Hush is amazing, SOG is great),

Solid- Peter J Tomasi (Batman and Robin is good), Matt Wagner (Monster Men is my favorite, Mad Monk is alright)

Hit or miss- Judd Winick (Love UTRH, Hate run just before New 52), Frank Miller (Love Year One, Hate TDKR)

Average- Kyle Higgins (Gates of Gotham is alright-ish), Jeph Loeb (Long halloween and Hush are alright), Denny O'Neil ( kind of off-topic, but I picked up Azrael 25-56 by him, some issues are sooooo good (31-42). The rest is meh-ish), David Lapham (City of Crime was amazing and terrible at the same time)

Most potential- I don't know, Scott Snyder, I guess.

Those are all I can think of that I've read, right now. I binge-read Gotham Central a few days and loved it, but that barely involves Batman, so Brubaker and Rucka are great there, but I haven't read any actual Batman by either of them.

Best - Miller (TDKR, Year One), Morrison (JLA run, Gothic, AA, his entire Batman run), Loeb (TLH, DV, Hush, Superman/Batman), Paul Dini (BTAS, Arkham Asylum, Arkham City, HoH, SoG), Denny O'Neil (His entire Demon saga, Shaman, TJFWR, Venom, TRORAG)

Worst - Geoff Johns (JL, GL Rebirth, Batman Earth One, Forever Evil), Kevin Smith (Cacophony, TWG), Miller (TDKSA, ASBAR)

Most Potential - Scott Snyder (TBM was great; COTO and DOTF both had flashes of brilliance, but were overall "meh". If he would stop relying on over long exposition dumps and make Bruce just a little bit more competent, I feel he would be great.), Geoff Johns (If he would remove his bias, or try to understand Bruce better, I think he could write a great Batman, considering I really like his GL, Aquaman, and Flash. Blackest Night and The Sinestro Corps War were fantastic. I just wish he cared enough to write Batman with the same pedigree. As it stands, he writes Bruce as useless and incompetent. Oh well)

Solid Overall - Tomasi (Batman and Robin, Batman and ...)

    That's all I've got...

Least favorite: Morrison. I freely admit that his stuff does not speak to me.

Favorite: Snyder, followed closely by O'Neil and Loeb.

    Potential: Snyder again.

@jphu8414: You know that's meant to be an exaggerated Batman? Some of his traits such as paranoia are exaggerated to kingdom come.

@Death Certificate: God dammit. Why can't I state my opinion without getting attacked or something. Either attack my opinion and make an entire argument or just state you're best, worst and one with most potential.

This has got to be, by far, the worst overreaction I have ever seen on internet life. Attacking you or something? You're in for a shock once you're out in the real world my friend. No trophies for participation out there.

Oh and Kevin Smith for worst and Morrison for best.
