Why is Joker identity total mystery ? Who is he, that after 74 years latter of his first appearance, we still don't know his true identity ?

Red Hood.... is Jack... Jack who ? He fall in chemical... and Alfred Stryker fall in chemical... and he is the very first Batman foe ! What happens with Alfred's body... can someone tell me ? Because i start to think that is Joker real name Alfred Stryker :) Although Joker mention, that he was... Red Hood... maybe he lose his memory of that chemicals, and compare self with another guy, who fall in chemicals ?

Well because mystery makes Joker great character and makes him have more fans. Did you know Marvel editorial staff argue about should they reveal identity of Hobgoblin. Imo the reveal of identity of Hobgoblin is mistake marvel have makes until now. Can you imagine until now how many story that you can make with mystery identity of Hobgoblin. Wow

Either take the time to learn proper English, or don't bother trying.

Exactly, he's the 100% polar opposite of Batman in every way. Bruce it the world's greatest detective, and yet he cant even find the name of one of the most notorious individuals in the DC Universe. On top of that, not knowing where he came from makes him even more unpredictable, and just plain scary. If his origin was told, his character value would drop significantly

The joker is the one question the worlds greatest detective can not answer, he has no past and no pattern that is what makes him so dangerous, we don't know where he came from, we don't know why he does things, if his past was truly known then Batman could piece the rest together, that will never happen

To me, the Joker's origin was told in The Killing Joke. It may not be the origin, but it sure is a good origin and fits with all the other facts. Till Snyder diminished the point of the Red Hood...

In the comics Joker real name never was revealed ! Peoples only can agree for his name JACK... if is that his name... or even nickname ? Cant be sure :P His last name, is thing that anyone cant agree... only for Jack Napier ! If you think about that identity ! But that name is used in Batman movie and latter acepted in some cocmics. There is and Jack White(or it was Joe White)... in the comics :) So which one of that u think that is his true identity ? Maybe you know some third Jack ? And yea... Joker real name is Jack Napier, but a different Dc Universe. Not comic universe which i mean !

Because it makes him more mysterious, scarier, and more interesting. In new 52 batman is still trying to figure him out, and trying to figure out why he is how he is. He's unstoppable without an origin.

1) It makes him mysterious

2) No one wants Joker to have a tragic backstory that led him down a dark path.

3) his past life doesn't matter. He's so crazy that who he was when he was sane has no bearing on how he acts/what his motivations are now.

The Joker decides who he is, in some way.

Nolan use of make up was based on this idea, if he is using make up there isnt any toxic blood that drives him crazy, thing the comics like to point, but they miss the point.

The Joker is the obvious response to Batman, Batman has an origin, because he needs an origin, The Joker dont.

Batman = Justice = Humans look for something better = Control = Origin

Joker = Injustice = Humans are monsters = Chaos = No Origin

It doesn't matter what his secret identity is.

Isnt Canon, The Joker said he could be lying and there is times The Joker remembers other origins.

Also The Joker lies.

The only thing we know, its that The Joker could had being The Red Hood and could had fall, but he wasnt The Joker before that? or it could be he is lying again.

If he had any substance/personality/background to him, he'd cease to the embodiment of chaos apparently.
