I took your original comment as an explanation for why people like fictional characters in general and replied to it by reminding you that the OP is asking, above the baseline falling for fictional character thing, why woman specifically choose Batman over many other characters.

Its not just an explanation for liking characters in general, its that and some humor because whilst true that it applies in general to fictional characters hence my examples, specifically it allows for people to take actual qualities and then exaggerate them. My emphasis on the fictional part instead of the specifics being primary because of the humor of fictional characters versus real people, since OP is talking about their wife. ..not all girls love Batman. I live in a household with 3 females (5 including my cats). My wife things the character is cool, but he is a d*** at times, my oldest daughter just hates Batman! Youngest daughter loves him 3rd after Spiderman and Green Lantern, so 1 out of 3 ain't good. I haven't asked the cats whether they like him.

Seriously? Batman is basically the ideal man. Rich, tall, brooding and handsome would be more than enough to reel in nearly every female(and some males) in the vicinity but if that wasn't enough he's also incredibly intelligent, creative, in ferocious shape, supposedly trained in every fighting style known to man and is compassionate enough to adopt orphans. Wow, actually writing all of that out makes him seem like kind of a gary stu. But in reality, if he was a real guy and normal women knew how he spent his nights his relationships would be bound to fail.

So they can look as if they know something about comics. Same with Deadpool fans, they say they love him but have probably never read a comic with him in their entire life.
