Bruce Wayne, who witnessed the murder of his billionaire parents as a child, swore to avenge their deaths. He trained extensively to achieve mental and physical perfection, mastering martial arts, detective skills, and criminal psychology. Costumed as a bat to prey on the fears of criminals, and utilizing a high-tech arsenal, he became the legendary Batman.
My vote would be Damian. Dick and Tim would make excellent Batmen but there is that scary serious element to Batman that they are missing. Damian has it.
If they're trying to keep up the illusion that it is the same person I think it'll have to go through Dick, Tim, then Damian then whoever their sidekicks end up being. If it's just a mantle that gets passed probably the same but maybe Cassandra down the line maybe.
Bruce is gonna end up making a Lazarus Pit to sustain himself so he can keep running his Batman Inc, and eventually he'll just become a less evil version of Ras Al Ghul.

@The Stegman: Yeah I know, and if you read Red Robin, I think he's becoming more like Batman everyday, what with the hit list and the ünternet (Bats is starting a new internet with Babs in charge.) And in the Teen Titans arc he also killed a bunch of people right? I'm not sure if that one really counts.

@junkmasterzero: yeah tim was quite different in that story, i mean he used GUNS!!! and it's a possible future, so i don't know if you want to count it or not, but it's just showing that when the chips are down Tim did become Batman
@The Stegman: Tim assumed the cape and cowl out of frustration towards Batman's, his "father", death and, to some extent, Dick for stepping up. It's perfectly understandable that Tim put on the Batsuit (the same model worn by Bruce when Tim was first introduced) and defend the reputation of the Batman.

Too much awesome to be handled ? Anyone else with the right characteristics can be Batman, but we know that won't happen since AMERICAN comic book characters don't age.
This says it..... Marvel and DC don't want characters to mature and have real lives... No, except Reed and Susan, can have children unless those children are taken off to another dimension or timeline to age instantly. Characters (in general, not all) are allowed to be as young as 13, but then they rapidly become old enough to vote, drink, and have sex... Once they reach that age, however, they stay that age forever. Comics never lose characters to old age, they just keep acquiring characters that are suddenly old enough to vote, dink, and have sex...
Then, when you have too many super heroes old enough to vote, drink, and have sex, you have some pitiful event like 'One More Day', or 'M Day', or 'Flash Point' to cull things down a little.... However, they STILL end up with too many heroes... And since characters like Batman don't age, they don't retire. So, instead of younger heroes assuming the role, you end up with things like BatMEN instead of Batman. In fifteen years or so, we'll see Batmen Inc, Batmen Ltd, Batmen subsidiaries, Extreme Batmen, Uncanny Batmen, Batmen Force, Mighty Batmen, and Batmen.....
Many of the Batmen will have children that they didn't actually raise, as the children were kidnapped and sent into the future where their aging was accelerated, they were experimented on, and augmented. Their children will coincidentally come back to the same point in time because, THAT'S the 'real time.' and it's so much better than any OTHER time...
Of course, when THAT gets too much to handle, we'll see The Batmen Wars, where the Batmen that the writers don't want, will be killed off... Of course, since it's comics, and in comics only Uncle Ben stays dead, most of the dead Batmen will come back; augmented...
