@masterdetective: Its a good classic Black and White movie with Conrad Veidt who acted as Gwynplaine , the role that inspired the look of the Joker.

It is sad yet interesting at the same time, you can watch it online at youtube since it is public domain.

If you didn't like it that's okay but why make a thread about it?

Personally always felt Lovers and Madmen was a better Joker origin story.

He's talking about the Brubaker story, not the 20's flick.

It is solid story and is built off of the Joker's earliest appearance. It was never meant to be an origin more a story of the Jokers first encounter with Batman. Brubaker takes a good look at the impact on Gotham , Batman and Gordon of the characters emergence.

I think it ties well since the Brubaker story was obviously inspired by Leni film. Knowing the book as a sort of homage to the film gives the book additional value. Like for example Nosferatu. If you do not know of the silent film then the Bat book would not be as much of a big deal to you as it would be had you known the film. I doubt anyone is ignorant about Nosferatu though. Hehe!

You didn't like it because you worship Killing Joke. The Legends of The Dark Knight 50 is a terrible Joker story

Not spectacular...I guess people like Year One so much, so having a 'sequel' is nice.

I've always viewed Year One as more of a Gordon story than a Batman story.
