What happened when the new 52 hit?(trying to avoid more spoilers)

I was aware that batman had died (the darkest night was where i found that out) or something and eventually came back. Did that stuff all end when the new 52 hit? I wanted to go and read batman and had no idea where i could start. Could someone tell me what i need to look up to find the arc with batmans death, the aftermath, the return?

His death was in Final Crisis, the aftermath was in Battle for the Cowl and the return was in The Return of Bruce Wayne.

It didn't end as far as I know, in Nightwing #1 Dick talks about his time as Batman.

The events of Batman's "death" happened as did Dick's time as Batman. Since the Crises never happened, it is unknown how batman was "killed" and how he "returned."
