Weekly Batman Series Plus Creative Changes
Happy for a new Batman book. I was just hoping for a title about Martian Manhunter, Captain Marvel, Zatanna, Atom, Doom Patrol, or Metal Men.
Also excited to see Francis and Brian working on Detective Comics. I have been loving their Flash stuff so I just might add Detective Comics to my pull list.
Also where is the Joker for on that cover. My guess with Grayson is that they are going to start treat him as his own hero or maybe it is because he doesn't operate in Gotham City anymore, but they replaced the Joker with Joker's Daughter? This could be interesting. I guess DC was serious with the Joker's fate in the Death of a Family.
Also I can't wait to see what they will do for Nightwing in 2015. That year it would have been 75 years since Dick appeared as Robin and was the most sensational character find of 1940.
Do we really need another Batman ongoing?
Most top tier characters like Batman, Superman, Wolverine, etc. have more ongoings than they need because the people who will buy these books VASTLY outweigh the amount of people who won't. You can just not buy the book you know.
new DETECTIVE COMICS creative team of Francis Manapul and Brian Buccellato begin their run in the Spring.
With this news I guess I'll have start reading batman--haven't read batman in like 20 years.
@xwraith: this is for batmans 75th birthday and its only lasting the year so i say why not
Owlman = dick??? Oh and i hate when they make a female version of a male character it feels like cheap creativity. Harley is original, jokers daughter is not
@2cool4fun: Joker had one once. Harley is getting one next month.
There are also rumors of Justice League, Superman, and Green Lantern weekly titles as well, right? Can DC support 4 weekly titles? That's a lot of creator management... And will the fans support weeklies outside of Batman again? I know Superman had a weekly title once, but are the numbers on the Superman titles from villains month a good indication of weekly status for that title? Justice League would be like 52. Was that a huge success financially? And I'm most concerned about the Green Lantern weekly idea, though some John Stewart every week would rock.
Anyway, it's great seeing Luke Fox fully accepted in the Bat-Family. Palmiotti has made him a really great character.
I agree, although every time I hear of there potentially being another lantern book I wish for something akin to Blackest Night: Tales of the Corps, where we get a couple of stories about various lanterns of different colors. I hadn't heard about any weekly titles coming up outside of this article yet, sounds cool.
GUYS!!! I Just Had A Thought!!! What if Nightwing is missing from the first pick because Batman: Eternal is about Dick as Batman! It kinda makes sense what if its a book about the legacy of Batman! With the Batman Incorperated book canceled they need to put the Batmen of All Nations somewhere right? Why not a weekly anthology book with each issue focusing on a diferent Bat-Family member. I'll this post started as wishful thinking but slowly turned into a pretty awesome idea if I do say so myself.

I know right? I love Francis and Brian's work and look forward to their Detective Comics run, but I was hoping to god that they were going to work on an Atom ongoing. Their New 52 run with the Flash made great use of science to help explain the stories, and it would've been PERFECT for a character like Ray Palmer, who I feel needs a more scientific reinvention (the white dwarf star stuff is really dumb and outdated).
I'll be honest, I like that they celebrate the anniversary, and the character deserves it, but stacking MORE Batman on top of the mounds of series he already gets, come on. I think 2014 will finally be the straw that breaks the Batman's back so to speak.
I guess Superman got Man of Steel and Superman Unchained for his 75th... Again, wish they'd stop relying so heavily on the big two : /
@batmannflash Man you are lucking out when it comes to the New 52.

Doubt it. With the roll Batman is on due to movies, cartoons, etc. are doubt a few too many books will kill him.
@martianmanhunterisbetterthancy: yeah I saw this! It's awesome :) I'm particularly excited about Francis Manapul and Brian Buccellato.
But honestly, aside from Manapul/Buccellato, I don't think we really need more Batman series. It doesn't hurt, but I'm quite happy with Batman, Batman/Robin, and Batman-Superman. I would like see Martian Manhunter, Shazam, Hal/Barry, and so on...
Great news, I'm really excited for the new creative team on 'Tec although I'll miss Layman, and I hope the nightlife in Gotham is more colorful now that Booch and Manapul are taking over, also really excited for 'Tec 27 and Batman Eternal but does anyone know if Eternal will be directly related to Batman or not? Because I dropped Batman after DotF and I don't want to pick that up, and will it be written by different writers or is it more like Snyder and Co.?
I'm all for more Batman comics and a break from more animated shows featuring him as the main character.
i will read this in trade and as for the new creative team i was going to pick it up before they even announced it.
Also i think the new series will be like 52
I do like Batman, but I gotta say that I can only take so much Batman in a Year before I begin to get terribly sick of it.
@rustyroy: Eternal will apparently tie into the core Batman title. Snyder will be writing but not exclusively - it's a rotating cast of writers apparently, so there will also be James Tynion, John Layman, Ray Fawkes and Tim Seeley. So not every story in Eternal will be Snyder-style if you're not into his kind of work, but it will tie together somehow.
@2cool4fun: Joker had one once. Harley is getting one next month.
wow...it's like they want half of there comics to be about batman's universe...
What's encouraging here is that they'll really focus on Bats' investigative skills. That tells me that they are going to do the same in the movies. Right direction to go.
Yowza, more Batman. Good! But yeah the strain on the wallet is definitely something that concerns me. In the end though I do agree, you can never have enough Batman.
The Batman Eternal thing just means Batman trades by creators I like a bit more often. The big news here for me is the new team on TEC. It's a bummer that Layman won't be on the book anymore, but at least he'll still be doing Batman with Eternal. Manapul and Buccellato replacing him count be better news.

..what? where it was stated that both supes and green lantern will have a weekly title? this could be a really nice new...but i doubt it will happen, they have plenty of titles right now, and they doesn't sell as much as batman (even if Superman unchained is going very well at the moment..) Oh well, i hope i am wrong.
I love Batman but come on DC enough with Batman. He has enough titles as it is. Batman comics, Detective Comics, Batman/Superman, The Dark Knight, Batman and Robin. I'm not gonna include Batman inc as that has come to an end Or Legends of the dark knight as thats "non cannon", but come on he has enough comics as it is, as for keeping Batman on a more street level? Thats what Detective Comics is for.
Not to mention all these Batman books focus on Prime Earth Batman (Earth 0), none of them are about the new Earth 2 Batman or Batman 3000. I'd have said fair enough if it was a different Batman like Batman 3000 or Earth 2 Batman but it's not it's about the same Batman all the way through.
I mean other characters don't have as many comics.
Wonder Woman only has 2 titles now, which is great that they have given her a second book with Superman/Wonder Woman, but again only 2 books. Superman has 4 books with Action Comics, Superman comics, Superman Unchained and Batman/Superman. Green Lantern has 3 books and Flash only has one book. Cyborg doesn't even have one title of his own and he was put in the Justice League's original 7, I personally think DC has mistreated Cyborg, I mean what's the point in hyping him up if you do nothing with him?
We don't need 6 Batman books. Even though I'm a huge Batman fan as much as I am a Superman fan, but really they need to give books to other characters I mean thats what the 52 was about wasn't it? Giving new concepts a chance and other characters, sure we had Captain Atom, FireStorm, Voodoo, Grifter, Team 7, Stormwatch, Demon Knights and Black Hawks yet most of them got the boot, yet DC put out characters like Vibe in their own book for a bit and not Cyborg?
the owner of my lcs had mentioned booch and manapul working on a BIG title but couldn't say , I thought it was going to be justice league Canada . I can't wait to see what booch and Francis have in store for the dark knight

Heard Snyder will be the Showrunner, he already considers himself as the Head Batman writer and in a way is already the showrunner, I just hope this doesn't effect the other writers' works.

You forgot Superman/Wonder Woman, so Superman has exact number of ongoings as of now, and Batman Eternal is only gonna last a year and is probably for Batman's 75th anniversary, maybe even Superman will get a weekly book. As for Cyborg, DC could've easily given him a book without compromising for Batman, they still could but they don't want to, that's why he still doesn't have an ongoing, Batman is not the reason.
@2cool4fun: To be fair Harley Quinn has been doing less Batman things recently and has mostly been residing to the Suicide Squad. Really the only time Harley was involved with the Batman stuff was when they were doing that Joker story arc and for the Villain's Month.
I'm actually quite excited about this news. It makes sense to take a solid creative team and put them on a bat book for Batman's big aniversy. It's goign to be interesting to see Manapul's art with a lot more shadows.
There's no way I'd buy 4 of the same title in one month. That's $12-$16 on just one title. I'll stick with Snyder's Batman, which I know will be worth every penny each time.
Awesome. I'm so excited for this. I'm looking forward to Talon being included in the Bat Family. Bats, birds and owls.
@martianmanhunterisbetterthancy: I was hoping for a Captain Marvel or Martian Manhunter ongoing when Manapul/Buccellato announced them leaving the Flash. However I do think they could do some cool and better stuff with the Atom. I do agree with you on the white dwarf star, but with Ray that is like taking away Batman's dead parents or Captain Marvel getting his powers from the wizard Shazam. I do think the creative team could make it a bit cooler.
Also I am surprised we seen an Earth 3 Atom, but not an actual Atom in the New 52 yet.

IMO I think Scott Snyder would be better for a character like Martian Manhunter. Captain Marvel would've been great for them though.
In terms of the Atom, he's sort of in the same area as the Flash as a sci-fi hero of sorts. And Manapaul and Buccelato have said that their approach to New 52 Flash was trying to explain elements of the Flash mythos by using pseudo-science, and that's something that I feel that the Atom really needs and they would have done a really good job. But in regards to the white dwarf star stuff, I never found it essential to who the character was. And plus as I mentioned before, it's horribly outdated and needs something more plausible in its place (maybe nanotechnology?). And I think the Atom should also have his niche changed. He's always been just a scientist, but I think it'd be cool if he was initially a scientist, but was forced to suit up after a problem, and then became some sort of spy character, who can also do sciency stuff on the side.
And I think the presence of an Earth-3 Atom might confirm that there's an Atom running around in the regular DCU somewhere? And what ever happened to Ray after Agents of SHADE?
@martianmanhunterisbetterthancy: Him or Matt Kindt. From what I have read of the Matt Kindt Martian Manhunter back ups in JLA those have been good. Captain Marvel would be good, but I have a feeling Johns is leaving Aquaman to work on Captain Marvel with Gary Frank. That though has just occurred to me.
The white dwarf star has always been important to the character's origin and it even got Ray into one of his biggest adventures in the Sword of the Atom. I do like you vision of the Atom. I remember reading a Secret Origin comics with Ray in it and it even mentioned for awhile he was a spy for the government.
I don't know whatever happened to Ray after Frankenstein though I did hear he did shrink in that series. Maybe he did become the Atom.
