Mine are Joker, Ra's al-Ghul, Scarecrow, Bane, and the 5th is a really tough call (Riddler, Two-Face, Talon, Hush...)
Batman
Character » Batman appears in 23633 issues.
Bruce Wayne, who witnessed the murder of his billionaire parents as a child, swore to avenge their deaths. He trained extensively to achieve mental and physical perfection, mastering martial arts, detective skills, and criminal psychology. Costumed as a bat to prey on the fears of criminals, and utilizing a high-tech arsenal, he became the legendary Batman.
Top 5 favorite villains?
@perethorn: I was talking about Batman villains man, lol :)
1. Joker. It's obvious.
2. Scarecrow, because of what he does. Revealing their darkest fear is amazing character development and is great story telling.
3. Mr. Freeze. Thanks to TBAS he is a sympathetic character. There is also a very interesting contrast with Freeze, he is void of emotion but his motivation is often very emotional.
4....
Ok the next 4 are a tie for me.... If we include catwoman.
Two face, because Batman believes he can still be saved.
Harley, thanks again TBAS.
And Penguin, but only when he is used as a secondary villain.
Is this even a question?
1. Penguin
2. Joker
3. Catwoman
4. Riddler
5. Louie the Lilac.

Don't know what kind of villain Grundy would count as, or I'd put him in.
1. Mr.Freeze. The history and evolution behind this character is so great. I'd put him over the Joker only for that reason, because Mr.Freeze is the only Batman villain that immeditaly comes to my head, where I can feel sympathy for him, and then absolutely hate him later on.
2. Joker. Just a pure villain. There's no need for reason with him. Ever since I read The Killing Joke, where he gives the speech about how all it takes for someone to go crazy is "Just one bad day", I immeditaly thought the character was genius.
3. Red Hood. While I dislike the character at times, when he turns into cliche badass mode.. I will say when it's actually confrontation time with Batman, and his reasoning to kill due to his past, it makes me really love the character. It's tragic, and bad ass at the same time. But his whinny angst cliche badass mode? Could do without.
4. Scarecrow. Really don't have reasoning, other than the fact I love just about everything about the character. The Scarecrow design, the fear gas. Alll just really cool to me.
5. Harley Quinn. I just really feel bad for this character. It really shows how a person can be abused mentally and pyshically by what a person thinks is their mutal lover. I think there's alot of untouched ponteitnal with this character as well.
I guess, of current:
1. Catwoman
2. Penguin
3. Riddler
4. Joker (his Batman 1 until 400 self; OK, I'll add until Superman Vol.2 No. 9 , but no, I could not care any less about "Killing Joke" and the rest of his overrated appearances since; this listing only goes for the Joker, whether written by Bill Finger, or Gardner Fox, or John Broome, or Dennis O' Neil, or Steve Englehart, or Len Wein, or Gerry Conway, or Doug Moench, drawn by Bob Kane, or Jerry Robinson, or Dick Sprang, or Sheldon Moldoff, or Carmine Infantino, or Irv Novick, or Jim Aparo, or Neal Adams, or Jose-Luis Garcia Lopez, or Marshall Rogers, or Walt Simonson, or Don Newton, others, who knows how to have fun, Jokergas to Jokermobile!)
5. Hmmmmm.....see my avatar ;)
Bane
Ra's al Ghul
Joker
Poison Ivy
Clayface.
Which Clayface, may I ask? Personally, I'd go for melodramatic Preston Payne, the original unstably psychotically dangerous Clayface, people-melting hands and all, but I'd place him either no. 10 or no. 9.
Batman villains:
1. Joker
2. Ra's al Ghul
3. Bane
4. Riddler
5. Scarecrow
Poison Ivy, Harley (in Batman TAS), and Two-Face are notable mentions. Heck, most Batman villains are notable mentions
Bane
Ra's al Ghul
Joker
Poison Ivy
Clayface.

Karlo, the original and most deadly but Preston gets points for uniqueness and originality. The other Clayfaces are almost exactly the same.
1. The Riddler
2. Two-Face
3. Mr. Freeze (Schwarzenegger version lol)
4. Catwoman
5. And of course the Joker
- Joker
- Two-Face
- Ra's al Ghul
- Riddler
- Bane or Penguin
I feel like for these lists I have to choose between the ones I think are obvious and important "best villains" and ones that I just like even if they probably wouldn't be on any notable lists. I'll just do both:
Big damn villains:
- Joker
- Dr. Doom
- Venom (Yes, I'm putting him ahead of Green Goblin. A case could be made for Doc Ock too.)
- Lex Luthor
- Magneto
(Obviously there are quite a few that are deserving of a top villains list—Sinestro, Green Goblin, Darkseid, Mongul, Brainiac, Thanos, Cheetah, Black Manta, Apocalypse, Kang, Loki, Red Skull, like all of Batman's villains—but these are the ones I chose.)
Personal favs:
- Mystique (I like her as an anti-hero too)
- Kraven the Hunter
- Max Lord
- Granny Goodness
- Harley Quinn
I always liked the Shadow King too.
