The Return Of Bruce Wayne Begins In April

We all know that Bruce Wayne didn't really die from Darkseid's Omega Beams.  He's been sitting in a cave, apparently lost in time, drawing bat-symbols on the walls.  I guess he's had enough of that.  DC has announced that Bruce is getting off his butt and will be battling through "the waves of time to reclaim what was his - his city, his life...his cowl?"

Even though we all knew this would happen one day, the fun will be seeing how Bruce gets back.  In April 2010, DC will publish Batman: The Return Of Bruce Wayne #1 (of 6).  Sound a little cheesy?  How about if I mention that Grant Morrison will be writing and will be joined by an all-star cast handling the art?

Does Bruce Wayne have what it takes to face his toughest challenge yet?  Can he make his way back to the future?  What will happen to Gotham City and Dick Grayson when (and if) he returns?

What does Mr. Morrison have to say on this?

The first episode is set in the Late-Paleolithic Era, the second is in Pilgrim-era Gotham Village, and we also get to see Gotham in Western or noir style.

Each of the stories is a twist on a different "pulp hero" genre — so there's the caveman story, the witchhunter/Puritan adventurer thing, the pirate Batman, the cowboy, the P.I. — as a nod toward those mad old 1950s comics with Caveman Batman and Viking Batman adventures. It's Bruce Wayne's ultimate challenge — Batman vs. history itself!

I've tried to thoroughly research each time period so that the stories work not only as at least fairly plausible reconstructions of life in the real 17th or 19th centuries but also as romanticized "pulp" versions too, while at the same time referencing the more extravagant history of the fictional DC Comics Universe in the background.

For more on Grant Morrison's thoughts, check out an interview he did with USA Today.

I would have waited till July to release the first issue instead of April still I live Grant Morrison's Batman run so I'm sure I'll get it either way.

His return should be in the Red Robin book ....

Im glad they are bring him back we all knew it would happen. But, Im tired of them killing people then bring them back and...then killing them again. It is old. Stories would have more drama if they kill charecters for good. But with that said Im glad he is back.

@They Killed Cap!:
He didn't die in the first place, he left a corpse but that was a result of the Omega Beam which forces people to live more than one life over an over again.

Glad to see him making a return, but a small piece of me liked the idea that DC might just continue to keep Bruce stuck in time but never able to return. A death without truly being dead. Would have respected them if they did that.

I'm glad to see Bruce is returning but i've would have waiting for 2012 to bring him back.

Lost in time-didn't the same thing happen with Cap?

#9 Posted by Nighthunter (28582 posts) - - Show Bio

yes

#10 Posted by johnny_spam (2035 posts) - - Show Bio

Yeah but weren't people saying Captain America lost in time was similar to what happened to Batman in Final Crisis? It's no wonder Batman and Captain America always get along in DC Marvel crossovers.

Curses!  G-Man usurped me!  ;)

Well, I predict that all of the Batman Rogue's Gallery will consolidate their forces, combine all their know-how to pull him back through time to the present day.  However, one he's back, his hair will turn green and Bruce will be possessed by the Joker... no waittaminute...

Am I the only one excited for Batman as a PIRATE?!
#13 Posted by burr787 (2504 posts) - - Show Bio

Grant Morrison said that Dick will remain Batman for at least another year but this still feels too soon to bring Bruce back. Also does he have to dress like a bat in every life, does he have a fetish or something?

@ARMIV: well Cap relived parts of his own life. This seems to be different, Pirate Batman? Awesome?

I know why they want to draw this out because they think it is a huge thing and they want money but I think you could wrap this up quick and make it dramatic and it would be a bit better and more serious and better.

Just like the return of Steve Rogers......too soon

I haven't been keeping up with Batman but I know plenty of people love Dick Greyson as Batman. I would have prefered to see DC keep the current status quo going for a few years more because it would be a shame if his return affected the Batman and Robin title. Dick and Dameon are perfect for that series.

I would like Dick as Batman and i dont really want bruce back and i think everyone knew D.C did'nt have the balls to keep him out of the picture.

#20 Posted by Nighthunter (28582 posts) - - Show Bio

I demand at least a temporary Batman beyond scenario! Dick as Batman with Bruce as his mentor until he inevetly returns to use the cape and cowl

if I'm not given that at least give me this:

No dead Dick Grayson only because Bruce is back

The smart thing to do here will to read both Batman and Robin and Return if they don't I can predict how people whined last year over not understanding that Batman RIP and Final Crisis were connected.

YAY

Batman BC or BCE if you wana be politically correct.

Had to know this was coming.  thank god Morrison is doing this.  I wonder if they are going to age Bruce, through this?  Like make him a more grizzled old man?  Wonders wonders if DC will attack the Status Quo.  Prob not though

i thought dc would have the dignity and the balls to keep him dead apparently not oh well he is extremely popular and popular people don't stay dead although i thought they would have brought him back as a black lantern

This whole thing reminds me way to much of Captain America, right from the beginning. I thought Cap was to soon and this is also to soon. Why cant we just have a new batman and a new cap? oh well.

@johnny spam:

They must have some very large bats in that time.Either that or among his other skills Bruce Wayne is also a master taxidermist capable of stitching together different animal hides to form a bat like appearance.

The costume reminds me of Stan Lee's Just Imagine Batman

At first, I was afraid Tony shit Daniel would be doing all the artwork, but now that I know it's an ALL-STAR cast of artists, I'm not that worried, nor bothered by the amount of junk Daniel will contribute to it. Thanks for the post!

I bet when Bruce gets back to the future it will be like how Cap and Bucky hold the shield. They will make a 5 issue story line with Bruce and Dick holding the Cowl. It will be called "Who Will Wield The Cowl". And I'm sure that at the end of the story Bruce and Dick are both going to be Batman. Because Dick has outgrown the Nightwing outfit, I'm sure of that. Just like Tim is to old to be Robin, He's Red robin I know but it is not robin still. Robin is more like a 13-18 year old system. For example when Dick left the mask of robin he was probably 18 or 19. Every young hero usually out grows their old cloths, and becomes the next great thing. So I can't wait to read this comic.

Dick becomes Batman Beyond when Bruce comes back.

I like the Caveman-style Bruce Wayne. It's ironic since he usually has hight-tech gizmos to help him, where in the cave he has to use bare essentials.
