    Which one do you prefer?

The one in Arkham City where he silently carries his body and doesn't even say a word

    or

The one in The Dark Knight Returns where he watches him die, spits on his face and blows up his body

    Thoughts?

TDNR. I'll never consider Killing Joke as his death. To me it always felt more like they shared a laugh and Joker stopped and was like no, you're not allowed to laugh too. Or like in the animated series where Harley captured Batman and he decided to screw with her head and she got freaked out by him laughing

Arkham City was more fitting. Although he had a deep seated hatred for him, Batman really wanted to rehabilitate Joker to sanity, as stated in Killing Joke. I like City's portrayal better because it shows Batman being sad that there is one more person that he couldn't save.

Arkham City. Just because of how poetic the death was. Even after everything the Joker had done, Batman still would have given him the antidote and let him live. But the Joker's demise came at his own hands. That's the real magic of the death.

He should have let him die.

From a moral standpoint, perhaps. But Batman's willingness to save the Joker is a real testament to their relationship. Order vs. Chaos. Bruce has his unbreakable moral code which forbids him from allowing Joker to die when he can prevent it. It was incredibly poetic, in my opinion. Much more of a lasting impact than Batman crudely spitting in the Joker's face and proceeding to set the corpse ablaze.
