Hello, as the title suggests. I am new to comic books and I'm not sure where to start. My favorite comic book hero so far is Batman, so I want to start my new hobby of comic books with Batman . I've seen some of the movies and I decided that it is time to get into comic books. I'm a little late in the game being that I'm a junior in college, but better late then never haha.

So far, I bought and read Batman vol 1. Court of Owls (The new 52).

However, I feel that it is too far ahead. I need something from the beginning. Care to help with my noobness?

Well the trade paper back for Batman zero year is out so you might want to pick that up. Also if its still available in stores, the weekly issues of Batman Eternal is also a good run. Detective Comics is also pretty good now starting at #30.

This. Zero Year deals with his origin. And if you want to check out preN52 books then you can start with Year One by Frank Miller.

Zero Year is the way to start things off. The from their move up to The Long Halloween, followed by Batman Hush and if you're in the mood Batman Black Mirror.

i would say start with following a writer before going for the best stories. most books standalone well so following what this writer makes of this character can be pretty fulfilling.

@scotty925:Here is a much better answer (even if it's late)

DC heroes got 2 reboots :

    1. 1986 - the modern age - after Crisis on infinit earth
    2. 2011 - the new 52 - after Flashpoint

You have then 3 timelines. But you can concentrate on only the newer ones.

For a good modern age timeline: www.comicvine.com/profile/batshrine/blog/batman-tpb-complete-chronology/79247/

For the new52 (which I find less interresting): read the Batman title at least

To answer well I would say that "Court of the owl" is the perfect start since it's the issue 1 of the new 52.

For modern age, you have 3 big chunks : before knightfall saga, knightfall saga to no man's land (and new gotham), Grant Morrison's run and tie-ins, Then you have other in between stories. I don't mean that those chunks main stories are the best, but important to grasp his timeline.
