Lance Bruner is a troubled youth that comes into the lives of Bruce Wayne, Dick Grayson, and Alfred Pennyworth after the death of his father. He comes bearing a signed agreement between his father andThomas Wayne, that if anything were to ever happen to Bruner's father, Thomas would take care of him. Thomas no longer being among the living, Bruce decides to make good on his father's word.

Over the course of the single issue Lance is in, he causes trouble for his new family; mostly for Dick as the Boy Wonder keeps taking the rap for the mischief Lance causes, i.e.: stealing money from the house founds, painting an officer's motorcycle, denting the fender on Bruce's new car, etc cetera.

Bruce takes Lance with him to a corporate meeting concerning the oil hijacking case that he and Dick had been working on. While there, Lance takes interest in Grantland Stark, who seems to be giving Bruce some trouble at the meeting. Meanwhile, Dick convinces the Teen Titans, (Wally, Roy, and Donna) to hang out with Lance.

In their civvies, the Titans take Lance to a club to dance. He does very little to impress the Titans who seem to have a growing impression of dislike towards the youth. Lance mingles his way over to a "top local gangster" by the name of Milo Manton; later that evening, Bruce receives a ransom note ($50k) for Lance's safe return.

Lance is returned to them and tells them a tall tale of his kidnapping. The next day, Kid Flash discovers Lance entering a bank. Later, Bruce confronts Lance about a deposit into the blonde's account for $25. Again, Lance gets away with lying to Bruce, and tells him it's legacy money from his father. During their conversation, Charles Hinton of the State Correctional Department arrives to inform Bruce of just who Lance is. Including telling him of how he is a Reform School dropout and showing him his delinquency record, as well as telling Bruce that Lance was kicked out of Military Academy. Hinton proceeds to collect Lance, but Lance rushes to Bruce and begs for him to not let Hinton take him away. He confesses to everything he's done to date, including getting Dick in trouble and arranging his own kidnapping (with the reasoning that he did it to see if Bruce cared enough to get him back). He promises to change and Bruce agrees to officially adopt him.

For awhile, it does seem like Lance has changed - most noticeably helping Alfred and donating their clubbing goodies.

While Bruce and Dick are out as Batman and Robin, and Alfred is out as well, Lance takes his time to actually explore the manor - and discovers the Batcave, arriving at the conclusion that Bruce is Batman and Dick is Robin, and that's why they're always vanishing. He decides it's time to make them pay for humiliating and patronizing him.

The next day, Lance meets with Stark, delivering Batman and Robin to him on a platter - setting a trap for them as Stark was behind the oil hijacking case all along. He tells him he knows their identities but there's no indication that he revealed who they were, just that he set a trap for them. Which they fell for.

As the trap is set into motion, Lance arrives at the tower where the trap had been set, for the pay off just as Stark aims a high-pressure air hose at Batman - which Robin jumps in front of, sending him off the tower, Batman leaping into action upon thinking Robin was dead. Before Stark can shoot the hose at Batman, the Teen Titans come to the rescue.

Stark makes his escape on a boat as the Teen Titans take care of Stark's men, and Batman gives chase. Stark shoots at Batman, who is climbing into his boat and Robin springs into the shadows from below deck of the get-away boat - distracting Stark long enough for Batman to take him down, but not before Robin was shot.

Batman, thinking Dick had sacrificed himself twice for him in the same day, asks him why - only for Robin to reveal himself to be Lance. Lance apologizes and Batman asks him why he sacrificed himself, Lance admits that when he saw Dick sacrifice himself for Bruce, he finally understood what real love and real respect was, and it made him want to prove to them that he wasn't all bad. He tells Bruce that Dick's okay and he's sorry that he wasn't able to be who Bruce wanted him to be before passing away in Batman's arms; Bruce mourns the fact that Lance wasn't given enough of a chance, and he was the man he wanted him to be.

Later, the Teen Titans and Bruce hold a small ceremony for Lance's passing, in which they have a bust for him in what appears to be the garden of Wayne Manor.

    Small Facts

    • Bruce makes note on page 5 that Lance is the son of his father's closest friend, Dr. Bruner. Despite this, no first name for Lance's father is mentioned.
    • Lance mentions that he saw his father die in an accident. He makes no mention of how he died. However, later on, this is combated by the State Correctional Department Representative - but it was not mentioned if it was in fact true that he saw his father die, or if he was making it up. It wasn't mentioned in his confessions to Bruce.
    • On page 6, Bruce mentions to Dick in another room that he remembers Lance as a baby in his Dr. Bruner's arms, indicating that Lance was born before Bruce's parents died.
    • It's noted that Lance was kicked out of Reform School and Military Academy. Chances are, he was probably kicked out of Public School and/or Private School, as well.
    • It's also noted that Lance has a juvenile record.
    • Lance tells Bruce that his mother died when he was two, and his father was always too busy for him.
    • It's also noted that he never really had anyone when he was growing up to show him right from wrong.
    • It was never stated if he revealed who Batman and Robin were; however, from the context of the issue, it seemed like even though he said he knew who they really were, he still didn't reveal who they were.

    Rumours

I never heard of him and i have heard of tons of weird obscure characters.

He only appears in one issue of the "Brave and Bold" and is never mentioned again, it's the same with Bruce godson Roger Jr. who he kind of adopted several issues later (and several other relatives of Bruce and Dick), so he was probaly not relay canonical.

And even Lance backstory doesn't make much sense, he is around Dicks age so it is very unlikely that he was born before Bruce parents were murdered.

But who knows maybe one day some author brings him back or he will appear in some multivers event like convergence.
