So looks like Geoff Johns is about to take all the mystique out of the Joker just like Marvel did to Wolverine back in the day.
Batman

Justice League 42 Spoilers (Not Cool Geoff)
@jonny_anonymous: Give it a rest. It's the perks of being a 12th level intellect: you know everything.
Plus, Geoff only used it for suspense and didn't really do anything about it.
@superguy1591: Give what a rest? This is literally the first time I've ever mentioned it.
Also no shit, it's like the second last page in the comic....
@jonny_anonymous: Don't bring it up again. Geoff didn't show us anything; he just used it to show the extent of Batman's intellect.
Joker's backstory won't be revealed. Plus, isn't that what Snyder did with Endgame? Give Joker as backstory?
@squalleon: That would be hilariously cool. =D
@superguy1591: I'll bring it up as much as I want. It didn't show any of Batman's intellect.. have you even read the comic?
@jonny_anonymous: Well, I can't stop you, but you're just looking for something to complain about. I meant to showcase how Bat-Metron has access to an endless amount of knowledge, not to show how smart Batman is.
Geoff has no interest in writing about Joker when two of DC's biggest bads are trying to kill the Justice League.
@superguy1591: Oh you know this do you? I'm not looking for anything to compline about, it's already there. Batman knowing who the Joker is = boring.
Geoff is a shitty writer, so this does not surprise me.
@jonny_anonymous: What exactly did Scott Snyder do in Endgame?
@superguy1591: I take it you haven't read Endgame?
@jonny_anonymous: Me? Spend money on a Scott Snyder book after Unchained? Lols--no, I haven't. Care to enlighten me?
@superguy1591: He didn't give Joker a backstory and Batman didn't know who he was.
@superguy1591: Oh you know this do you? I'm not looking for anything to compline about, it's already there. Batman knowing who the Joker is = boring.
What's the point of being the World's Greatest Detective if you can't figure out the identity of a crazy clown, while you're the God of Knowledge?
Also, don't we already know Joker's origin? There was a guy, he was Red Hood, he fell/jumped into some chemicals, came out a psycho...wasn't that totally a thing?
@scouterv: What's the point of being the world's greatest detective if you need a magic chair to give you all the answers? Also that's not the point. The point is it'll make the character boring just like it did Wolverine.
That may or may not be how the Joker came about but we don't know anything about the guy or who he was. Also clearly who ever he was is quite shocking to Batman.
@jonny_anonymous: There's nothing to suggest that Batman will keep the knowledge he acquired as Metron once he's off the chair.
Geoff has 0 plans to write about Joker, and I think it would be boring to write a Joker story in Justice League. So, don't worry, no one cares about Joker's secrets.
Plus, complaining that Batman is the world's greatest detective when Metron is one of the smartest beings in the UNIVERSE is silly. Batman isn't in Metron's league.
@superguy1591: Who is complaining about Batman being smart?
@jonny_anonymous: Meh, we all need a little help sometimes. The chair or the bat computer...and you assuming this is permanent? If it's temporary, it could be a small change of pace befitting the situation.
And as far as I care, I consider that his origin. Makes enough sense, it's fitting, I figure why not?
@scouterv: So say he gets his memory wiped but we will still know, and if they never verbalise it then the whole thing was pointless in the first place.
Even if it is it's still not a proper origin, we don't know who he was before that and that's the entire point of the Joker. He could be anybody.

We're not going to find out because it's not important to the story. It's just a way to show the power of the chair.
@jonny_anonymous: I doubt we'll find out. Batman has far more threatening things to deal with. I doubt they'll waste time on Joker here.
And I doubt we'll get anything more concrete. May as well be his origin. I mean, yeah it's cool he could be anyone...but it's most likely that guy from who jumped/fell into the chemicals.
@holyserpent: I actually like Geoff Johns
@scouterv: Yes but we don't know who that guy was
@jonny_anonymous: Joe Everyman?
@theacidskull: I liked his Aquaman. But nothing else I've read from him has really impressed me.

Have you read his Wally West Flash?
I still think it is his best super-hero run. Great stories, that subtly interconnect with each other until you see they connect way more, great characterization and pace.
That run also hasn't the disadvantages Geoff Johns stories currently have. The writing isn't so decompressed, the stories have variety and aren't epic after epic so you don't feel fatigue or bored. The characterization is spot on on every character.
@squalleon: I forgot I read a volume of that. Now that I remember, I really liked the Captain Cold issue.

His run is one big story that constantly escalates but you as a reader don't even get it until things get full blown in your face. I am sure you will like it.
And yes, Geoff is after all the writer who sparked reader's interest in Cap. Cold. And that issue was the beginning :D
For all we know, he may not have a real name or the chair may not even know. Either way, I doubt we are actually going to learn his name, if there is one. And even if we do, so what? Jokers appeal was never his mystique to me. After we saw his supposed origin in The Killing Joke that kind of went away. I could care less what his name is. I was fine believing it to be Jack White or Joe Kerr
@theacidskull: @xwraith: Have you guys read his work on Superman, Green Lantern, Flash, Aquaman or the Justice Society.
@theincrediblesuperhulk8642: I said that Aquaman is my favorite thing he's done.

Have you read any of his other stuff?
@theincrediblesuperhulk8642: As I said earlier, I've read a volume of his Flash (the one with the Captain Cold origin story). I also read the first volume of his Teen Titans and his Power Girl story in JSA, but I didn't like those as much.

I highly reccomend checking out the rest of his Flash and JSA. His Teen Titans is great but he's done other/better runs.
I wonder if this will have any consequences to the Batman books. Probably not but it's only fair if Bruce knows Joker's true identity considering Joker knows Batman's.
Guys seriously there is no need to bust ourselves with this.
This will be forgotten by the end of the arc with utterly no consequences.
Its just there to show Batman's new found powers...although I still bet not even the Mobius chair knows who Joker is.
You're probably right, but creating fake hype by bringing up a plot thread he has no intention of completing is terrible writing. Honestly, I don't know how he can get himself out of this one without cheapening this cliffhanger.
It isn't even a cliffhanger. The cliffhanger was Bat-man's godship not the reveal of the Joker. That was there just to show Batman's powers, it has value for being there showing the incredible knowledge the Mobius chair has.
It is silly to make such a fuss.
Also in the Batman: Gods and Men one shot Batman will use his powers to change Gotham so even if it is a plot thread, it will probably be resolved there.
@squalleon: the Mobius Chair isn't much of a cliffhanger, it's not like that's a new thing.
@squalleon: the Mobius Chair isn't much of a cliffhanger, it's not like that's a new thing.
It was supposed to be. But unfortunately the solicits and covers gave it away. That's actually my main complain. This issue was a recap issue and the only exciting part was revealed months before. They should have kept it a secret because now this issue had no excitement and zero reasons to exist.
@squalleon: Yeah but what I mean is the Mobius Chair has been about since the 70's, it's been in 86 issue so far (likely more) so it's not much of a surprise because we know what it is and what it does already. If the cliffhanger was meant to be Batman sitting in it and not the chair itself then what they should of done is cut out Batman googling Joe Chill and the Joker and just went straight to the "I am a god" part and had that other stuff next issue.
