So i wanna make a list on the various criminal gangs or leaders Batman/batfamily has faced.I don't consider Ra's al Ghul,Kobra,Joker or Bane to be crime bosses.

    So Let's begin

Black Mask and the false face society

    Block Buster

    Falcone Family

    Maroni Family

    Black Glove/Dr Hurt/Club of villains

    The Dealer

    Penguin

    Lew Moxon

    Court of Owls/Talon

    Two-Face

    Great White Shark

Killer Croc(classic, though modern version is also a mostly hired gun)

    proceed after this.

How in the hell did all these crime families manage to share/split territory in Gotham? There's too many of them for one city. How big is Gotham exactly?

If my memory of Huntress: Year One holds true, the Bertinelli family had links in Gotham as well.

Bone is a recent one, from the newest Catwoman series. But he's a small fish if there ever was one.

There's also the Viti family (though they were mainly in Chicago), Anthony Zucco, Edward Skeevers, and Bobby Gazzo.

'Come up with more some time later. :)

@entropy_aegis: Power vacuums mostly a lot were from Gotham pre-Earthquake. And as Batman said in the aftermath the majority came to Gotham because of the power vacuum which made it easy pickings. And a lot stay in certain areas the various dragons mostly stay in the china town district. And then there are the various ones that have been taken over by rival gangs.

I honestly think DC should have one big crimeboss for Gotham, they can bring the Outsider from Flashpoint in to continuity. That guy was hardcore. Most of the rest should move on to New York and Bludhaven to challenge Nightwing and the remaining members of the batfamily.

@entropy_aegis: Yeah it is unbelievable to have that many,I've always wondered why the majority stay in Gotham with so much competition around,it seems profit would be extremely low from the various avenues. And yes an overall mob boss for the city would work, but then again wasn't that the whole point of War Games to make Blackmask the unified crime boss for all of Gotham.

True but overall it's impact upon the batbooks was negligible,Steph returned,Sionis died,Leslie is on speaking terms with Bruce again etc.I mostly hated Steph's torture and Leslie's treatment by the writers. Not to mention i never fully understood how Step screwed up in the first place.

@entropy_aegis: The Leslie thing was my biggest gripe with the story,as for Stephanie she failed because she wasn't Tim.Through out her entire training batman would criticize her usually saying stuff like by this point could do so and so much better, and the fact that during the Robin solo series they would patrol and she disobeyed his orders on several missions. In fact her entire purpose of being Robin was to bring Tim back.

@entropy_aegis: Yeah and Steph frequently annoyed me as Robin, and even when she had the mantle the Robin series continued to revolve around Tim so it was no secret. One Year Later took away the majority of the impact of the story,Stephanie turning up alive took away the rest.

I've counted about 40 heroes that are either from Gotham, operate in Gotham, or just live in Gotham City, which is roughly 25% larger than Manhattan island (according to a source i cannot find again). if each hero stayed in Gotham full time that leaves about a square mile for each hero to defend and protect against the crime family and secret cult (ive jokingly told friends) each hero battles against regularly.

now that im seeing the compiled list of gangs and families from Gotham im really left wondering how big the civilian population is in Gotham.

@sEsposito7: When you think about it though, there is no impact. It brought Tim back only for him to leave the mantle a few years later, killed steph but she never actually died, Leslie actions were completely unlike her, and Black Mask died after becoming the unified mob boss, with Gotham's mob scene returning essentially to status quo.

I liked War Games, but it is far from the top tier Batman stories.

Yeah well DC agrees with me on that one,it's why they reversed everything that happened there.Overall i was unimpressed,Black Mask had a cool gimmick of his own but after this he became a Red Skull wannabe who got owned repeatedly before getting killed by Selina.

They made him Gotham's biggest mobster for....um what?getting killed and humiliated?

Still to each his own.I gave the story away a while ago.

@nightwing91: If you think about, continuity rewrote some of the best Batman stories, not just War Games.

@entropy_aegis: Fair enough. Truth is, I know a lot of people didn't like it, but I swear, if you go back and read it again, it's much better.

@sEsposito7: Some details were, but the majority weren't pushed to have changes undone so quickly as War Games. Leslie was given a secret reason for her actions, Stephanie was revealed to never have died, Tim left the mantle again four years later, and Batman who had went back to not having the approval of the GCPD post One Year Later did. And it's because War Games changes proved to be unpopular for the characters directions.

Council of Spiders, Leviathan, Rupert Thorne, Maxie Zeus and the New Olympians.

Eh i would put Leviathan and Council of Spiders above crime, thanks for the others.

    Arnold Wesker,Scarface and Peyton Riley.

The Council of Spiders are a branch of the League of Assassins. At the end of Red Robin #12 Ra's admits to having created them as part of one of his 'tests' to prove if Tim was worthy or not.

He did'nt create them, just manipulated them.

@shotgun: It's the biggest city of DC which explained why batman could never clean the whole city.
