Did you guys actually like the Realism on the character?or did you think it held him back and made him look weak?
Batman
Character » Batman appears in 23651 issues.
Bruce Wayne, who witnessed the murder of his billionaire parents as a child, swore to avenge their deaths. He trained extensively to achieve mental and physical perfection, mastering martial arts, detective skills, and criminal psychology. Costumed as a bat to prey on the fears of criminals, and utilizing a high-tech arsenal, he became the legendary Batman.
Did you actually like Nolans Batman?
@flameboy298: we love it for what it is, but hate it for what it became
I wish they went with more of the peak human aspect because at times he looked like a normal guy in a batsuit attempting to fight crime by throwing punches. But All in all it is one of my favorite trilogies
Yeah....I liked the story, tone, grittiness of the films. I wasn't a big fan of batmans voice lol....
liked the 1 and 2 but rises was a piece of crap if i had to say the biggest things that bothered me about the series is that "The Worlds Greatest Dective" aspect of Batman was completely missing and that Nolan made the theme of anyone could become Batman and it really simplifies Burce's struggle to become a weapon of justice and the innate sacrific of the character and makes it out that anyone can put on the cowl and become Batman which is just wrong
It was a different take and I liked it. he still had many similarities with the comic book Batman.
Impressivelly many similarities.......(concidering the reality ratio)....Especially with the Miller books.
@ultrastarkiller: @lordofthenorth: for a second there I thought everbody loved that movie, because me, well me, I hate it with a F#CKING PASSION
HATE CATWOMAN PORTRAYAL
HATE BANE PORTRAYAL
HATE THE STORY IN GENERAL
I really do hate it my capitalization emphasized it
Really liked the first two, but the third was a hurried, jumbled mess. That said, I don't think they are the be-all-end-all versions of Batman the way lots of others seem to.
@lifeofvibe: I like CW and Bane. I hate the story its not even funny how much I hate it.
I do like them. I like them very much. It was a wonderful time to be a Batman fan while they were coming out. The plot of Rises was a bit leaky but it was very enjoyable nonetheless. They made some creative choices I didn't approve of that weren't necessarily bad from a plot or character standpoint but rubbed me the wrong way. I was annoyed with how much they have Bruce wanting to retire from being Batman, retiring from being Batman, and being retired from being Batman. I was also annoyed by their insistence on pushing the no-killing thing. I don't think it makes any sense for Batman but as a Batman fan with that opinion it's just a thing I kind of have to live with, and while I could go into more detail this is neither the thread nor the time to do it, so I'll stick with just letting the gripe be known. Rachael Dawes was a most wretched and irritating love interest. She's naggy, condescending, and self-righteous and I spent every scene she was in hoping that Batman would get over her. While there were a few nice fistfights, often the combat felt stiff and slow.
For the most part, however, I was extremely pleased with the series. While the bat-voice could be grating at times, I think Christian Bale is still easily the best live-action Batman we've ever had. Most of the casting was also superb with special mention going to the villains. Liam Neeson's Ra's al Ghul and Heath Ledger's Joker are some of my favorite interpretations of the characters, and I have never cared at all about Bane until Tom Hardy's version of him.
While I don't think I would want the hardline realism of the series to be the only take on Batman I appreciated it as a valid interpretation. It was a very humanizing take where we get to see a man build the legend of the Batman and then struggle with the possibility of losing himself to it while knowing that losing himself to Batman is perhaps the only way to protect his city. We even got some really neat batsuits and bat-vehicles out of the deal.
Despite the somewhat lackluster hand-to-hand combat there were still many great action set-pieces-- the vehicle chases, the sonar siege in the Dark Knight, etc.
So, while the Nolan trilogy may not have been everything I wanted, it was far more than I had any reason to hope for and was a great step for comicbook movies.
I don't think it made him look weak. If anything I think it gave us a great looking into his psyche. The Nolan trilogy became my favourite trilogy and I liked that DC took a different route with the character then Marvel was was going with theirs. I feel like Marvel films are Comic Book Movies in the truer sense of the word and Nolan's Batman was more in the vein of a tragic drama genre that just happened to involve a character from comic books. Definitely looking forward to a more Comic book-centric adaptation again but I truly believe that that trilogy is a piece of true art.
Sure I liked Nolan's Batman a great deal. But I'd like to see a departure from that in future films. A more comic book influenced movie.
I loved Batman in ''Batman Begins'' but not so much in the other two. He was alright in The Dark Knight but I really didn't like him at all in Dark Knight Rises.
I enjoyed the first 2, didn't care for Rises. I am glad their done with it though so Batman can hopefully start acting more like Batman and his rogues gallery can be portrayed in a more fantastic sense. (Example someone like Killer Croc would never be able to show up in Nolan's films it was too grounded for that)
I like Nolan's trilogy a lot more than the Batman films that preceded it. I felt that Nolan really captured the essence and aesthetics of the books even if his adaptations were a little different to the original source material; he certainly did not disrespect it.
In my opinion, his method of cinematic reality works so much better than a campy or comedic lighthearted approach.. As much as we suspend our disbelief when we go to the cinema, a sense of realism, quality drama, action, VFX plus a sprinkling of humor makes for a better balanced super hero experience.
I loved all 3 films, but "The Dark Knight" remains my absolute favorite. Heath Ledger is a legend. :-)
I loved all three films.
I loved all three films.
I loved all of them. And no it didn't make him look weak. Even while being grounded he had some borderline metahuman feats.
He wasn't perfect, but I liked the take on him for the most part. I guess I liked all three films well enough, with Begins being my favorite out of them.
I liked him in Batman Begins. He was a good mesh of reality and fantasy.
I liked his Batman in Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, but not in The Dark Knight Rises. One thing I feel they could have improved on was showing how skilled he was in hand-to-hand combat. We saw a small glimpse of that in Batman begins while Bruce was training with Ra's, but we didn't see much of it in The Dark Knight.
One of the other issues in the trilogy was that Batman never really had any villains that required him to use such skills. In both Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, other than Ra's and his assassins at the end, Bruce mainly dealt with plain street thugs. In TDKR we finally had a chance to see Batman show-off his skills against Bane, but instead Nolan simply had Bruce throw punches, only to get pawned by Bane a few seconds later.
Loved the first 2 liked the 3rd.
I liked it! However...
I did feel like the movies didn't properly portray his highly intelligent mind, detective skills, and fighting like in the comics. Basically Nolan's Batman was definitely weaker than he should have been. Not too big a fan of the voice. I don't hate it as much as others but it got worse with each movie and I much prefer Kevin Conroy's voice. But all in all I still liked Nolan's Batman. I actually think I will like Affleck's better though
@flameboy298: we love it for what it is, but hate it for what it became
Wow, quote of the day
Sure I liked Nolan's Batman a great deal. But I'd like to see a departure from that in future films. A more comic book influenced movie.
I liked it, but it is by no means my favorite take. The lack of utility belt use, the terrible choreography, the attempts to be "real" cinema. Meh.
There is room for improvement and I'm hoping Affleck Batman is up to task.
Loved the first 2 liked the 3rd.
@jayc1324: I didn't.Not everyone likes that horrid franchise.
@flashrobin: Most people loved that amazing franchise.
