@masterdetective: Didn't you already create this thread in Gen. Discussion? Anyway, where was it said that Barbara was homosextual?

I'm not sure about Fish Mooney but Montaya was always Homosextual. Catwoman, Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn are all bisextual.

And where might you be getting this impression from? There are plenty of male comic book characters that are homosextual.

I'm not sure about Fish Mooney but Montaya was always Homosextual.

Montoya wasn't originally a lesbian. The 90's comics had her dating a guy (some sailor who got infected in Contagion or Legacy). I don't think Grant, Dixon or O'Neil have ever said they intended the character to be gay, that didn't happen until Greg Rucka started writing the character and making her interesting.

Rucka has tried to claim the guy was just her beard (or whatever the lesbian equivalent is), but that seems like a retcon since he didn't start writing the character until No Man's Land. I don't recall many people responding negatively when Rucka decided to make her gay and it seemed like the character really gained some steam, until she became the Question.

Anyhow, Catwoman being bisexual is pretty uninteresting but hey, at least she isn't showing up at Wayne Manor and doing a strip tease for the security cameras.

@devitciiu: Oh, okay, my mistake then. Thanks for the info. By the way, why does it seem everyone seem to have a problem with Montoya being Question? The reason I ask is because the only comic I've read with her as Question was Final Crisis, which she did have a fairly small part in, but I didn't think she was bad.

Why not turn Batman and the robins bisexuals too while You are at It?

Oh wait, the comics industry is homophobic against gay men anyway. Only Lesbians are ok because it attracts more male purchacers

You mean they weren't bi already? Dressing up in spandex together, sleeping in the same bed, etc.

And if DC is so anti gay dudes, how do you explain Bunker? As much as I'm with you on the whole "DC needs to realize that more than one kind of person reads comics" thing, it's pretty clear you're being pretty one sided.

No, one out of the 5 Robins (6 if you include Carry Kelly) was his son. And when you say Robin out of a specific context, people will usually assume you mean Dick Grayson.

Do you happen to have a scan of where this was confirmed, or at least hinted at? I know that in Gail Simone's Batgirl run Barbara had a bisextual roommate, but that was it. I haven't read Birds of Prey but I don't remember seeing any threads or articles about what you're describing.

Its the same kind of thing that's been happening for years. Various media industries latch on to the newest equality movement, make a massive shift and 'change the medium as we know it.'

Eventually they figure out having a bunch of characters who are exactly the same because that's what the public is cheering for at one particular moment is boring, and the status quo returns. Maybe it alters ever so slightly so as not to appear anti-minority, but these massive changes rarely stick.

@masterdetective: Well, that would make her bisexual, not a strict lesbian.

it is a completely different continuity, though. I think Barbara having a history with Montoya adds something new to a character that hasn't really been fleshed out in the comics - at least, not from what I've read. I will say that it doesn't seem very creative - if they wanted to explore her character there is other things the could have done. But from what I've heard, Gotham isn't exactly known for it's good writing.

The problem with this is that it doesn't really add anything, or rock the boat for that matter. Catwoman was already assumed by many to be bisexual. It's a PR stunt meant to be perceived as edgy, when really it isn't. Why aren't bisexual female characters controversial? Because they appeal to both men AND bi/lesbian women.

    Oh, yeah, duh. :P

Well, I haven't read much about either Question - I've only ever seen them as supporting characters, although Sage was awesome in JLU - but is there any of their comics you would recommend?
