Something tells me there’s going to be a lot more follow-ups to the video game ARKHAM ASYLUM beyond the already-announced and trailer-promoted sequel.

What’s that something that’s telling me so? It’s the announcement that Warner Brothers’ Home Entertainment group has bought a majority share in Rocksteady Games, the developer that produced last year’s 3-million-selling smash hit.

Here’s how the president of the WB’s said division, Kevin Tsujihara described the deal to the Financial Times…

“The biggest gap this fills is that it locks in development talent on one of our most valuable pieces of intellectual property for games: Batman… “Even in a declining market, great developers are a scarce resource and incredibly valuable, and these guys proved with Arkham Asylum that they understood our characters… They’re comic book guys. They love working with comic book characters.”

And Rocksteady’s games director, Sefton Hill, spelled it out even further to Joystiq…

"The Rocksteady team is very much looking forward to creating more great games based on widely recognized Warner Bros. brands like Batman."

If you like comics as well as video games - - and there’s a very, very good chance of that - - you might have noticed that the WB’s purchased TT and Midway over the past couple years.   Those games company were behind LEGO BATMAN and DC Vs. MORTAL KOMBAT, respectively.

I can’t help seeing this as another sign of the DC Entertainment consolidation, of which we saw the announcement of a new corporate team last week. If I recall correctly, the character designs in ARKHAM ASYLUM were done by artists from Wildstorm - - a fact that stuck out to me as signifying this kind of consolidation. You know, why separate the offices when you can easily coordinate the different talents? Why develop a GREEN LANTERN movie in a totally separate department when you can bring Geoff Johns in to consult on it? And so on...

Now the tracks have been laid down, where do you want to see this DC video game bullet train go? What games would you like to see, oh quick-reflex Comic Vine community?

In some ways acquisition is fortunate, especially in this climate, with well known studios falling through the net. My only major concern is that they either focus solely on DC games and after a while become stale and, more importantly they up root the company and move them away from London (I'm biased). 
 
But no, I shall make a concession, it IS a good thing and I look forward to more great games. lets hope Bat-Man Arkham Asylum 2 has the same impetus as it's predecessor.

It would be nice to see a 'good' superman game, which has never been done before. Does anyone remember Superman for the 64? One of the worst gaming experience of all time. Of course you don't have to go that far back, the Superman game based on the last movie was a piece of trash to. Supes might be as hard to develop as game, as he can be to write. Then again they didn't make a really good Batman game till Arkham Asylum and Radical pulled off a good Hulk game with Ultimate Destruction so here's hoping, for a decent Superman showing soon.

I can only predict good things may com e of this.I liked what I saw of Arkham Asylum and DC has been doing a great job of successfully branching out and into other mediums with their animated movies and such.I'm not such a huge MMO fan but I also love the idea of DCU online can't wait to see more of DC and it's wonderful properties.

Sigh...there goes any possibility of seeing a Daredevil game using the Batman: AA engine.

i want superman :O loved arkham asylum in my opinion they really stuck batman to his character which is a tricky thing to do, great job to rocksteady next up, arkham asylum 2 then superman doom of metropolis :P 

This could be awsome news.Or right crapy if WB tries to run it instead of with them.Many belived when EA bought out Mythic that it was great news to.Hurm i thought they had some ownership of the movie games made off of Watchmen an Wanted.If im wrong i blame my sinus infection atm.

A flash game would be great... 
A GL game could work if it is created properly...

I can't help but wonder if DC is doing this in order to cut Warner Interactive out of the gaming picture when it comes to their characters.

Loved Batman Arkham Asylum - one of my favorite games ever.
Keeping with the gritty style - I would love to see a Suicide Squad game.
It would be a kick to play as Deadshot - imagine the carnage.
