I'm not sure how many reasons you need, so I'll list two.

    1) It is the biggest moment in DC Comics. It basically reinvented the DC Universe.

    2) It saw the heroic deaths of Barry Allen and Supergirl

I nominate The Creeper(1990's series) issues 7-8. "Madhouse" and "He Who Laughs Last". It's the absolute greatest showcase of Creeper's own twisted brand of heroism as well as his impact on the criminal underworld and ever so volatile relationship with Batman. The ending is heartbreaking in its own way.

I definitely want to cosign Joker's Asylum.

And I have a few suggestions of my own I haven't seen on the list

    • Batman: Gotham By Gaslight
    • How is this one not on the list already? It is the very first 'Elseworlds' story DC did, and it remains one of the best. Mike Mignola's dark artwork sets the perfect tone for any Batman story, and let's face it, how cool is it to see Batman fighting Jack the Ripper? Not to mention the completely different reaction from the Victorian times to this 'Bat-Man.
    • Batman: Sword of Azrael
    • I reserved this one for my 500th review, can I just link that here and use it for evidence? http://www.comicvine.com/batman-sword-of-azrael-sword-of-azrael/37-126661/user-reviews/?review_id=26219
    • House of Hush (Streets of Gotham #14, 16-21)
    • Both Hush and Heart of Hush are already on this list, but I definitely think House of Hush deserves a mention as well. Dustin Nguyen is undoubtedly one of the greatest Batman artists of all time, and he teamed up with Paul Dini again to follow up to Heart of Hush. But House of Hush is unique for a Hush story, because it isn't about Batman. Each issue was great alone, but slowly worried me on how a complex Hush plan could be squeezed out of the remaining issues; and in the final pages I realized that Hush had been the main character the whole time. It was Hush who was inadvertently put through an accidental gauntlet of older and more obscure Batman villains; while digging deep into the history of the Waynes and the Elliots, and many other darkened corners of Gotham City.
    • Emperor Joker
    • The world is broken, and nobody seems to know what's wrong. It isn't even until halfway through this Nine Issue story that The Joker is revealed as the cause. But we get to see the world shaped in the Clown Prince of Crime's image, and it's as interesting as it is terrifying. In the end, it's also one of the Joker's easiest defeats. He is beaten simply by the idea of Batman that he can't erase from his head.
    • Batman and Robin #26 (Earthly Delights: Scenes From A Work in Progress)
    • I scarcely know where to begin with this one. Its a tale that shaped the possible future for Nightrunner in the DC Universe. It gave him a Joker who avoids being a cheap imitation by being self aware of his identity as a cheap imitation. David Hine took some of the core ideas of Batman, and rewrote them into a whole new world. In France. Arkham Asylum is, in my opinion, outdone by Le Jardin Noir. Certainly a breakout at Arkham is very very very bad, and certainly the place itself is essentially a well of psychosis; but the breakout of simply four inmates from Le Jardin Noir causes the entire scope of reality in Paris to be so far fractured, that within two days, the entire city was declared a Disaster Area. It was chock full of Dada symbolism, and created oodles of as-of-yet-untapped potential for the so called 'Batman of France.'

@The Mighty Monarch: To quote George Takei: Oh My!

I'll add those to the list...

sidenote: I'm not sure how I feel about putting links in the nomination reasons. I'm sure its a very wonderful review (most of yours are...) but I don't know how I feel about publicizing people's reviews. When I make the list I'm going to put the reasons in the comment section under each title. I'd lean toward not including the link, because I try to make the reasons less personalized

I am proud of the work I did, thank you very much.
No one has made more sense for the average reader on CV then I when it comes to Morrison's run.
That is fact. Heck my work on Batman has gotten me talks to work freelance with a couple of online mags.
That is why I am confused.
Sure I don't write as much here anymore, but that is because what I contribute at my best it is worth something.
And that is a something I was giving free because of good Karma.
I wanted to show people that Batman is in good hands with Morrison.
I wanted to breakdown the beauty of visual continuity with J3's Batwoman.
I have written more about Batman then any user that is not staff.
If it is not more, it is at least the freshest views needed.
I do what I do to show comics are in not a lost medium and one day we all might have Alan Moore depth.
When I saw the list I was bothered when  I didn't see works like Venom and Ten Nights of the Beast.
yet other stories made the list? I don't want to be mean and single anyone out, but some choices... really?
I only spread my tail feathers because my knowledge is above par and insight is a gift only I can give.
In a project like this, Batman fans were selected, but I am not saying they don't know their stuff.
Then I thought to myself there must be at least one person who doesn't measure up to the potential to make the best list.
Am I wrong to assume that was the goal? To make the best list?
So if you wanted the best list, then you draft strong.
I am not bitter I was overlooked.
I was confused on why some stories are missing.
So yeah "there (I) go again talking about how great (my) reviews are compared to everyone else's"
I go on again because I am not white noise thinking my voice should be heard.
Those who know me know I still personally thank any recommendations.
I still get back to every message sent to me.
On facebook I thanked every single person who greeted me on my birthday,
rather then the generic "thanks for all the wishes..." lines most people settle with since the time was not worth returning.
Sure I may sound like I have lost my humble,
but I argue that I have my integrity because I know I leave a mark, rather then trick myself I do.
I only know my impact on the world because the masses have spoken.
I never voted for my Elegy review to reach 67 positives or my Batman: The return to have 47 positives.
The B-day thread Roxanne did for me has a stupid about of views to responses (almost 200 more) because of the hate.
People hate when they know they can't match up.
When I want to deliver I have proven it packs a punch.
    My resume speaks for itself.
You can love me or hate me.
I love me and those who want to expand in ways traditional media doesn't promote love me too.
    Cheers

When I saw the list I was bothered when I didn't see works like Venom and Ten Nights of the Beast. yet other stories made the list? I don't want to be mean and single anyone out, but some choices... really?

That's how I felt about Gotham By Gaslight.

When I said that everyone yelled at me so don't bother. They can still be community nominations though, I'll co-sign them.

Well, I posted my message to Bill on Facebook, so I can't guarantee he'll even read it. I don't open up a whole lot of stuff I get on Facebook myself. LOL!

But I've got other ways to get in touch with him if Facebook doesn't work. :D

We'll find out this character's name one way or another! :-)

Well, to add another point of view, you were saying you thought people were, "just naming the first stories off their mind anyway (which dissapoints me), it would explain the lack of Laughing Fish, Red Rain, or Black and White".

I'm not wanting to stir this up again, but I wanna point out people had their own opinions on what should be nominated. thats why they chose the stories they chose because they thought the stories were important. They had the chance to nominate any 5 and so did you. The fact we missed some good stories is not a surprise to me. It merely means that the community can nominate them :)

@SupermanJohnathanKentJr: added to the list! I do need nomination reasons, but other than that...good...

@RUKM: oh, you are right on time! you have two things you can do right now. you can:

    • nominate a story we are missing from this list (see requirements in the op)
    • or you could "cosign" a story already up there (which is pretty much saying "I suport this story and would like to see it on the list")

    so you are fine! :)

    @Silkcuts:

Boo-hoo <sniff> This is what the Wikipedia people are saying now:

"This biographical article is written like a résumé. Please help improve it by revising it to be neutral and encyclopedic. (April 2012)"

They'll just never be happy with me. :(

@kfhrfdu_89_76k: Well, its not just about Batman its about the characters around him. I wouldn't say its the Batman Family only because I don't characterize Deadshot or Joker as being part of the family. But they are part of the Batman Universe. I mean the Batman universe is divided into three groups: the Family, the rogues, and the in between characters.

I just think Universe fits the characters and stories more than family does...
