It's been odd not having an actual Batman animated series airing. It's been a while since we've seen Batman: The Brave and the Bold. Thankfully soon we'll have the debut of Beware the Batman. It may be an odd title but it looks pretty cool.

And what you need to know is the first episode debuts this Saturday, July 13, on Cartoon Network.

A new teaser image has been released over at CBR's Spinoff Online:

More surprising is the fact that the opening sequence was released last week and I'm only just seeing it now. Yikes! Why didn't anyone tell me this was out?

When I saw a previews for Nick's TMNT, I thought it looked terrible and I'd be disappointed. I was dead wrong. Moral of the story: give an episode a shot before jumping to conclusions, even if you're not all that fond of the animation at first.

Now when you say yikes, is that a "wow I'm impressed" or is it a "I'm raising my eyebrow in confusion"?

@k4tzm4n: Batman just shouldn't be a kids show. I won't watch it, but I'll check out the reviews.

And what tells you this is a show only for kids? TMNT gave that impression but the final product proved it could be enjoyed by fans of all-ages. Wait for an episode before thinking this is only being geared towards a younger audience. If you're right, then stick to not watching it. But maybe -- just maybe -- the show will prove you wrong. Again, only way to tell is by watching a full episode.

@prizm: Yikes as in I'm ashamed I didn't know the sequence was out.

@awesam: That's very silly to say. I loved the Batman cartoon when I was younger....why should kids be denied an friendlier interpretation of Batman?

#7 Posted by SoA (4685 posts) - - Show Bio

not going to see it ,as two DC shows i watched were replaced my go titans (w/e) and this .

Brave and the bold, the animated series. This isn't the first time batman had a show geared towards kids, probably wouldn't be the last. That said,I'll probably be taking a pass on this too.Unless the reviews are really good. Getting tried of the amount of tv time this character gets.

I'll check this one out, no harm in doing that. However, I don't have high expectations in this one. They're using less awesome villains and having Katana fight alongside Batman. Plus the animation and CGI doesn't look good (GL TAS CGI wasn't bad actually).

The only hope for me in this show is if they introduce the entire Bat family. We have yet to see that outside of comics and I've always wanted to see: Steph, Cass, Babs, Dick, Jason, Tim, Damian all together.

Unfortunately, I don't think this is happening so, not excited for this one at all. Hopefully the story writing is good.

Holy Crap that was short!

#11 Posted by AweSam (7373 posts) - - Show Bio

@muyjingo: I didn't say that. However, it just ends up looking stupid, in my opinion. I used to watch the animated series when I was younger. Obviously I liked it. I suppose I shouldn't have gone so far as to saying it shouldn't be a kids show. I think Batman should be enjoyed by audiences of all ages. I think it's just the animation that really gets to me. I don't watch cartoons, so my opinion doesn't really matter.

it looks crappy and cheap as hell but so does TMNT and it is great. plus if it's anything like BTB&TB (with lots of character) it will be at least decent.

Looks O.K. to me

I wonder how long it will take before this turns into a "they cancel Young Justice for this!" thread........

#15 Posted by YoungJustice (6669 posts) - - Show Bio

I like the apparent serious vibe, but ugh, bring back hand drawn animation.

I won't really comment on the rest but good grief, why does Anarky look like the Spectre while wearing a white cloak and utility belt? The hell?

I really don't think this is going to be "geared" towards a younger audience. I remember the producers released a statement after the Dark Knight Rises shooting saying they were going to have to tone down some of the excess violence and use of guns do to shooting. Also, take a look at the villains. Professor Pyg for example is one of the most revaulting, deranged villains introduced in the past several years. Anarchy is a complex villain who's crimes serve to further an anti-government political agenda.

This television series will be more serious than both Brave and the Bold and The Batman.

As for this teaser, it was pretty cool. It's shot in a style very similar to TAS imo. I remain optimistically enthused about this series.

WHY the heck does Anarky look more like Moon Knight with a mouth?

And why is that intro so short?

#27 Posted by SlickyMike88 (209 posts) - - Show Bio

If your going to make a 3d animated show , make it look good :P This seems plain as the Green lantern show. Add more textures and details to the characters and environment ,this looks too damn simple:P

The only good 3d animated show I know is Tron Uprising , it has a blend of 2d and 3d , sadly nobodies watching it seems:P

That's an even better comparison.

I'll watch it I hoped other smaller named characters get introduced I really enjoy the Katana addition, and heard Ra's will appear sometime.

@k4tzm4n: The new tmnt sucks and is ass

#31 Posted by lilben42 (2498 posts) - - Show Bio

I'll give it a shot but making Alfred into a Batman's partner ruined it for me.

#32 Posted by Shallbecomeabattoo (363 posts) - - Show Bio

I hope it has a darker tone for a kids show, like Young Justice had. I want real stakes and tension! Even as a small kid. There is nothing wrong with not dumbing everything down for them.

#33 Posted by blkson (785 posts) - - Show Bio

@jointron33: what the hell have you been watching? That show is GOLD.

#34 Posted by Lurkero (176 posts) - - Show Bio

I hope the production team was real careful to avoid the lifelessness that cheap CGI typically brings. Based on the intro and existing previews my first impression is that the show will not be enjoyable, but I am still willing to give it a try.

The animation just turns me off. I'm sure it might be a great show, but I just can't stand that kind of animation. Might be a little close-minded or expecting too much considering the animated series when I was a kid was so great, but I just can't. Anyone else feel that way?

I'll give it a chance, but please DC I'm begging you here GIVE SUPERMAN A NEW CARTOON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! COME ON!!!!!!

I'd love to see a Superman show in the same vein as Batman: The Brave and the Bold!!!!! Show off all of Superman's rogues gallery, even the admittedly lamer villains like The Prankster!!! Even have episodes focused on different members of the Superman Family like a Supergirl episode or a Superboy episode, even a Bizarro episode like that one Brave and the Bold episode where Joker was the main focus!!!

Seriously Batman has had 4 different cartoons since the 90's and 2000's!!!!!!! First Batman TAS, then The New Batman Adventures(I count it as a different show due to the different animation style and name), The Batman, Batman: The Brave and the Bold, and now the fifth one Beware the Batman. WHERE'S THE NEXT SUPERMAN SHOW!!!!!!!!! COME ON!!!!! MAKE IT HAPPEN!!!!!!!!!!

One of the recent interviews with the producers flat-out said that they WOULDN'T tone down the writing just for children, and should be entertaining for all ages.

itsssssssss doing nothing for me. I am neither whelmed or over whelmed.

It's okay opening, but I feel like there's a trend nowadays with cartoons where the openings aren't as impressive as they use to be. I guess it's a way to cut down on time, but with shows like Ultimate Spider-Man and Avengers Assemble, they don't even have an opening sequence, just the title.

I miss the days when we had openings like these.

I guess I'm the only person in the world who's excited for this, but then I'm a weirdo who prefers computer to traditional animation in some cases, so what do I know?

#43 Posted by MadeinBangladesh (6013 posts) - - Show Bio

Looks cool, but not gonna watch it.

All these new Marvel and DC cartoons like Teen titans Go, Beware the Batman, Ultimate Spiderman, Avengers Assemble, and the new Hulk animated series just look like crap

#44 Posted by SynCig (373 posts) - - Show Bio

I am cautiously optimistic for the show. I wasn't too fond of the animation style for The Clone Wars when it first came out but that turned out to be my favorite cartoon of all time and one of my favorite shows period. So I will be checking out Beware the Batman.

#45 Posted by kilowog52 (395 posts) - - Show Bio

@lilben42: I may be wrong by I don't think Alfred will be out in the field too often, but will hold a role more akin to his classic one. Though I do believe he will be portrayed as a very capable spy like he is in Geoff John's Batman: Earth One, which I really enjoyed by the way.

@justthatkid: I heard that no villains who have ever before appeared in television animation would appear. Ra's al Ghul has however appeared in Batman: TAS.

@onemoreposter: I think that's Humpty Dumpty

Who are the white gorilla and the robot guy in that poster?

I am. I seriously don't like 3D animation. For movies I like it, hate 2D animated movies, but for a tv show its just weird.

I'll try the first episode, see how I feel about it then. Obviously it wouldn't be fair to judge this JUST by this teaser and opening sequence.

Monkey dude is Silver Monkey. No idea on green dude.

I'm guessing the second female villain is Madame Zodiac.
