    But I don't know why!!!!!!!!!!!

    Year One is good yes.

Ok, The Dark Knight Returns, Hush, and Gotham Noir.

I still need to read the Tim Sale/ Jeph Loeb stuff.

Does it have to be Batman exclusively?

    The Man Who Laughs

    Birth of the Demon

    Vengeance of Bane

etc were all very enjoyable books but those focused more on the villains.

If it's simply Batman, then Grant Morrison's entire run. It's a love letter to the batfanboy,if you don't like Morrisons style then you can check out Scott Snyder's run on both Detective and Batman.Paul Dini had some nice stories too in his detective run.

It depends what he is doing. His work on Superman: For All Seasons wasn't his best. I hated how he drew the big bulbous Clark... Same with Bruce. However, when the characters are suited up, I like it.

    They're incompatible,

Son of the Demon and Bride of the Demon were connected,Birth of the Demon actually retconned those stories so yeah it happened later.

Now I believe Morrison has created a continuity which acknowledges both SOTD and BOTD but leaves out Bride. I think you're supposed to ignore Talia's origins in both the stories.

Oh and Feb/March seems to be an Al Ghul month, all these stories are being re-released along with Bane of the Demon and "Bane" oneshot.

I already suspect Bane of the Demon/Legacy/Bane influencing TDKR,it's possible that Son of the Demon and Birth of the Demon might be used as a source material(young Ra's and Talia).

    All of the Loeb/Sale stuff

    Mad Love

    The Killing Joke

    Broken City

    Under the Hood

Most of the things Grant Morrison wrote

    The Black Mirror

There's probably more but those came out of my mind. I left some out because most was already said.

Long Halloween, Morrison's run, and if it counts, the Dark Knight Returns. These pretty much capture who Batman is for me.

You've heard my opinion on this many times, Hawkeye, but again:

    Greg Rucka/Ed Brubaker stuff like:

    • Bruce Wayne: Murderer
    • No Man's Land Vol. 1 (Vol. 2 will be out in February)
    • Gotham Central
    • Batwoman: Elegy

I love and own the Hardcover of Elegy. It was fantastic and deserves a re-read..

The others I plan on buying/reading. At the moment I am getting older and more out of place/elseworlds books.

Then I will move onto the middle where No-Mans land is (as I see it).

And then the more recent stuff like Morrison's run/Battle of the Cowl...

Slowly but surely I am evening it out in my own mind.. :)

Batman: Hush- The whole thing reads like a Batman: TAS movie. If you don't wanna read it for the story, at least look at Jim Lee's pretty pictures.

The Killing Joke- Best Joker story ever written. Possibly one of the most important Bat-books, especially if you're into the Gordon's.

Arkham Asylum- A very interesting inside look at Batman's villain's psyche. Art is very trippy if you're into that.

    Knightfall- Bane breaks the Bat.

The Man Who Laughs is RIGHT after Year One, and it's awesome. It's a direct sequel, basically.

Oh, and The Black Mirror is an indirect sequel.

@Gambit1024: He is pretty good. Though he could not save All Star Batman and Robin the Boy Wonder from the failing talent of modern Frank Miller.

@Daveyo520: Oh God no. Worst Batman book ever. I love Miller, but good lord that was trash. After that Green Lantern part, I gave up reading and just looked at the pictures at that point.

@Gambit1024: Yellow. Ya it is not too good. He wrote some of the best Batman books ever too :( All-Star Superman is amazing, and I hate Superman, I wish Batman could have had something like that too.

@Hawkeye446: I will say something that will make people mad. I hate Tim Sale's art, there, I said it.

You're not alone! It's the one thing that's keeping me from Long Halloween.

Sale's art in Long Halloween was fantastic in my opinion. I liked the pretty colours o_o Probably his best work.

Are you sure I shouldn't be thanking the inker? as opposed to the colourer?

Can't really say I like one particular story or anything since I love all the post Year One stuff. I'm especially partial to the Elseworlds stories though of that time, but I know those don't technically count.

No. You should thank the colorist.

You are right, I liked the colour scheme, and he came up with it.
