Tim Drake. Didn't die like Jason and damian, and had a solo series for almost 20 years. Much more useful than anything dick did in his golden and silver age years.
Cassandra Cain by far...but it's almost ridiculous to call her a "Batman sidekick", knowing what she is capable of...
I had to throw my vote for Barbara not because of her but her position in general. I was never a fan of a 9-15 year old boy running along side Batman, its just too far off. Oracle was a much better addition.
Uuuggh this is hard. I'm torn between Grayson, Tim, Damian and Barbara.
Tim is incredibly intelligent and has the potential to actually be a better detective than Batman himself in the future.
Damian has been trained by the league of shadows in warfare, assassination, strategy, as well as a number of fields, prepping him to "rule the world", by the time he could walk. Probably the most naturally gifted when it comes to martial training among the Robins.
Barbara while an excellent combatant is most likely the weakest in terms to h2h. She more than makes up for this with her genius level iq and incredible resourcefulness, as well as her indomitable spirit. For crying out loud she survives being shot through her spine and becoming the Oracle. She was not only the eyes and ears of the bat family but the justice league as well.
But when it comes down to I guess I'll have to pick Grayson. He's one of the most athletic members of the bat family and one of the most agile people in the DC universe. He is an excellent leader, who has the strategic acumen and tactics of the Dark Knight, and the people skills and ability to inspire hope and camaraderie like Superman. He's the type of person I could see leading the new generation of the Justice League and has already proven worthy of the mantle of the Bat :).
I would also like to add that you should probably eliminate Catwoman and Kathy Kane from the greatest sidekicks. They are not sidekicks, Catwoman is more of an antihero/femme fatale, while Kathy Kane is actually individual hero apart from Batman as I recall.
Alfred, only one that's remained at his side no matter how much guano he has to put up with and sweep off the floor.

Forgot to mention Alfred. I don't think sidekick is the right term for him... mmm more like a father figure if I had to describe his relationship with Bruce.
Tim Drake was his greatest sidekick to me. Dick Grayson was good by he was greater as an individual superhero.
@dagmar_merrill: Who?
@comicstooge: THOSE FEELS!
Even though he isn't really a sidekick, I voted for Alfred as he is the one character who is constant throughout Bruce's life, and more importantly Alfred's interactions with Bruce humanize the latter more than any other character. I can imagine Batman without a Robin but I can't imagine Batman without Alfred.

Apparently the next issue of B&R is titled 'Batman and Robin' again! :D

I await the return of the prodigal son!

Hellz yeah.
Damian will make him forget all about his ungrateful, traitorous, bastard sons (Dick and Jason).

I actually totally agree with this, but Cassie is my Fav so i had to vote on her, plus no other Bat-sidekick kicks ass like her.
We can imagine (we even saw) batman without Robins or batgirls but we can't and won't see batman without Alfred.
I voted Jason, but I like Dick and Jason equally. Also the correct answer for this thread is James Gordon
EASILY Grayson, no contest. I love almost all of Batman's sidekicks, but Dick is not only the original, but also went on to become Nightwing, a great superhero in his own right, and Batman, showing that he is is the only sidekick that can reach Bruce's level.
