Batman is not human: A Batman fan rant

#1 Posted by daboyfromsaturn (21 posts) - 10 months, 23 hours ago - Show Bio

Batman, one of the greatest heroes in the world of comic books. Not just a man, but a legend in the streets of Gotham and possibly the several universes in the DC Comics multiverse. His alter ego is Bruce Wayne. Bruce being the fake persona and Batman being the real man. A genius, polymath, martial artist, detective and above all else the Dark Knight. The vigilante protector of Gotham City. Helped in his crusade by several gadgets and the Bat-Family.

He could also be seen as a madman similar to his arch-enemy The Joker. He is haunted by the murder of his parents he was powerless to stop by Joe Chill. The Batman of Zurr-En-Arrh is him unleashing the complete crazyness housed inside his disturbed psyche and the three ghosts of Batman being experimented on.

He also never loses, just normal intelligence or some other method known only to Batman. His powers to inflict fear in enemies, his superhuman genius, him never having any scars or permanent injuries from his various encounters. Could Batman be something from out of this world.

Could Batman be immortal, a vampire, a bearer of superpowers or is he God?

You can see it in the comics, the Bat-Mite, the bat-radia, Zurr En Arrh, and several other unexplained things. He just isnt human

What do you think?

I tend to think, his body is human(taking that term loosly) but his mind is superhero level. I put him in my own classification known as E.S.H otherwise known as Enhanced Street Hero, where while he is a human he has the mind, the wealth and the technology from that wealth to put him on par with superheroes.

He's peak-human in a comic book world.

No one could ever possibly live up to the standard he sets.

#4 Posted by Jorgevy (4647 posts) - 10 months, 23 hours ago - Show Bio

He's probably just a DC world mutant. It's like genius intellect guys, no one is that smart in the real world, they are all just mutated albeit in a slight almost unoticeable way

#5 Posted by daboyfromsaturn (21 posts) - 10 months, 23 hours ago - Show Bio

What about the Bat-Mite the comic says that hes a figment of his imagination, but his powers directly affect the outcome of things in the real world

#6 Posted by Jorgevy (4647 posts) - 10 months, 23 hours ago - Show Bio

when you said Batman of Zurr En Arrh, you mean, the original one or the recent 2008? cause the original one is easily explained

#7 Posted by RainEffect (3240 posts) - 10 months, 19 hours ago - Show Bio

A good example of this theory is when Damian became Batman in that distorted future and made a deal with the devil in order to be granted immortality.

Batman never loses?? he loses all the time, he just always wins the SECOND time around.

Wasn't the fact that No Man's Land even happened his biggest failure?

#11 Posted by daboyfromsaturn (21 posts) - 10 months, 5 hours ago - Show Bio

dude no mans land happened because of an earthquake and besides he was trying to reconnect Gotham to the USA he wasnt there for 3 months because he was trying to save Gotham and his biggest failure was the death of the second Robin, Jason Todd.

He's human.. people write him as a god though. I always think back to this one JL episode where he gets captured, and at the very end he escapes. He pretty much just says I could have gotten out any time IM BATMAN!!!! It's just silly.

Being gone for 3 months caused a power vacuum. Which is what turned No Man's Land from a national disaster to a historical event.

You complain about batman not being human when there are crazier people like Cassandra Cain and Karate Kid?

He's a powerful human but still has human weakness.

I understand how Batman can be viewed as something more than human but him being human is one of his amazing qualities. If he was/is something more than human then his character won't seem "as" impressive. He would still be a great character but I believe his greatness would lessen.

Batmans suit might be superhuman like, but their is always a human inside of that suit.

#21 Posted by ssejllenrad (11461 posts) - 9 months, 29 days ago - Show Bio

Comic-world human is not equal to real-world human... capische?

#22 Posted by Shawnbaby (5858 posts) - 9 months, 29 days ago - Show Bio

There's Real World Peak Human, Comic Book Peak Human, And Batman Peak Human.
Batman consistently does things that other Peak Human Characters would be unable to do. In my opinion it's gotten to the point where it' cheapens what used to make the character great.

Batman is the host of Popularity Power, and as such can be classified as Supernal Entity.

If Batman was a god he'd be immortal.

But isn't that the point? He's supposed to be this neigh on impossible character. John McClaine, four unbelievably ridiculous situations with incredible odds against him and he managed (and a 5th to come). Not a great analogy but we probably wouldn't define his fictional character as "not human". Excellent topic for a thread though OP. Great debate/opinions!

Batman is the best superhero ever he can beat anyone with prep and 99.9% without prep. nuff said.

#27 Posted by Jorgevy (4647 posts) - 9 months, 27 days ago - Show Bio

@sohanlon07: Mclaine has what a lot of action heroes have: major luck and jobbing villains. But even though he cheats death, he never showed anything extraordinary. Batman cheats death AND shows feats and stuff he does that no human can do. That's why there's this whole debate going on...

#28 Posted by KenTheProfile (412 posts) - 9 months, 27 days ago - Show Bio

@daboyfromsaturn: he human and that what makes his enemy fear him. he bleeds like any man but he comes back time after time.

#29 Posted by CrimsonCake (2610 posts) - 9 months, 26 days ago - Show Bio

Batman's a man who walks as a god.

#30 Posted by not2baad (516 posts) - 9 months, 26 days ago - Show Bio

Batman is the best. His real super power is his speed of thought and never ending will power. If he had a super speed or super strength nobody could beat him, because he is a human he has to dodge the bullets or think his way out, but that is what makes him great and gives him his edge. If he had Superman or Flash's power. There should not be a super powered criminal to even challenge him.

#31 Posted by sohanlon07 (51 posts) - 9 months, 26 days ago - Show Bio

@jorgevy I know exactly where you are coming from in this case. A good debate this. I agree with @not2baad that his extraordinary thought processes and will could be deemed some sort of super ability.

They already explained in Batman #422 that Batman is a high level reality warping alien who only disguises himself as a human so he can evaluate the planet Earth and it's future potential.

I'm not sure if this carried over to the New 52 though.

#33 Posted by samuel_larson_10 (283 posts) - 9 months, 26 days ago - Show Bio

batman exerts a strong pheromone that makes his enemies' brains produce massive amounts of chemical fear, giving him an edge over superpowered beings

#34 Posted by daboyfromsaturn (21 posts) - 9 months, 23 days ago - Show Bio

what are you talkin bout issue 422 is "just deserts" there's nothing about no reality warping alien in there

#35 Posted by MasterDetective (212 posts) - 9 months, 23 days ago - Show Bio

He is not human, he is a comic-book character.

#36 Posted by DeathpooltheT1000 (5850 posts) - 9 months, 23 days ago - Show Bio

Also i nget what you say, but remember that comic book writters are insane.

Bruce is a human in the comics, but in real life would be a superhuman in every respect. Logic, physics and rules of the comics are different than real life.

#39 Posted by gats_botl (78 posts) - 9 months, 23 days ago - Show Bio

why would you think batman was anything but human. he is a normal man who is super rich and overly intelligent

#40 Edited by Alexander505 (1493 posts) - 9 months, 23 days ago - Show Bio

Normal for comics, because the mental and physical perfection can not achieve with the simple exercise. You can not even be one of the greatest masters of the martial arts world, but at the same time, also a scientist, a strategist and a detective. It's just impossible.
