Bruce Wayne, who witnessed the murder of his billionaire parents as a child, swore to avenge their deaths. He trained extensively to achieve mental and physical perfection, mastering martial arts, detective skills, and criminal psychology. Costumed as a bat to prey on the fears of criminals, and utilizing a high-tech arsenal, he became the legendary Batman.
Didn't you find extremely unusual that Batman (Bruce Wayne) was wearing his old uniform instead of the new one? I know, I know. It sounds like rabid fanboyism, but it's not. I'm not complaining, at all. I love Dough Mahnke's art and I certainly prefer Batman's classic costume to the new one (though it has grown on me lately, I must admit). But what I find odd is that DC has allowed such an "obvious" continuity error to be printed. Heck, they even got it right in the cover. Batman's new costume is not only a way to differentiate between Bruce and Dick, but it has also been a major source of publicity for DC in the latest months, with The Return of Bruce Wayne and related stories.
So, what do you think? Is this an overlooked mistake? If not, how do you feel about the inconsistency between portrayals of the same character in different series?
Mind you, again, I'm not complaining about anything. I'm just surprised something like this could happen.
I noticed it too and I don't think it is nitpicking. They usually go out of their way to make sure these kind of inconsistencies are explained such as not fitting in the current timeline, but in this case there is no doubt that it fits (three weeks after his return.) They've gone out of their way in the Batman family of comics to make sure the costumes are consistent, I think this was a mistake by the artist.
When I first saw that they were both going to be Batman I anticipated that it might get confusing with the costumes. They should have done something like what Marvel did with Capt America and make the costume more different.
