    I think that Batman resembles the need for justice and the corruption of Gotham resemble's the human condition. Essentially, society, and therefore humanity, is always corrupt and can never be purified. Batman is like the savior figure, pulling humanity out of its darkness and inevitable self-demise. The story of Batman in general is actually quite a tragic one, but one that really gets you thinking. There is a lot of depth and sub-text in the story of Batman. It's really quite interesting.
