I have read posts saying (not explicitly) that some comic books are basic comics u have to read if u are a fan of that character or unless looks like ALL the fans of that character have read them.
In Bat's case there's many that I have read but others that I refuse to read like:
- The Killing Joke: HATE tragedies, more the big ones like this one
- Batman RIP: Dude I don't want see a lot of guys in spandex or black suits crying in a funeral
- A dead in the family: I don't want see a poor bird dying (Well Jason was a Robin, right?
Other cases is impossible for me like
- Cataclysm/Aftershock/No Man's Land: I don't find them ANYWHERE :'(
- The Resurrection of Ra's al Ghul: I have it but something I don't have is much TIME
- The Dark Knight Returns: I don't feel ready to read an elseworld that big (unless the things I have heard about it are big)
I'm going to read Year One, yeah pretty crazy thinking that I stared reading comics half-year ago and I'm a big Batman fan that's the place I should have started , but I'm weird. Oh and the only reason I'm going to read it is because I'm going to see the movie and I don't want make the mistake of saw the movie/read the book if I can avoid it I'm going to do it.
My point is: is it a huge mistake? a crime for a fan? an unaccomplished obligation? a really bad thing?
PS: I stared with cartoons, I read almostALL the comics characters wikipedia's pages then when I learned their history (ALL the important parts and ALL Batman history and time line) I stared reading comics
Less Words: I start in comics with a previous general knowledge, specialized in Batman and family
PS 2: Sorry if there's some incoherence I'm learning english (Viva México amigos)
