Costumed as a bat to prey on criminals' fear and utilizing a high-tech arsenal in his crusade to rid Gotham City of crime, the legendary Batman was born.

http://bit.ly/Imlqvm Good read on what Bane's orb might do in the TDKR. A geologist discussed the possibility of manmade earthquakes and even proposed the idea that the orb could create super density, which would explain the football field collapsing in on itself. I personally hope it is something more than just a stupid bomb, and knowing Nolan, i think it will be. What do you guys think?

I sense a pseudo scientific explanation for how the orb works :)
