Not saying that i hate it and i love Scott Snyder and loved Court Of Owls, but i find myself a little underwhelmed with it so far. I realise that it's not over yet, but reading the series so far (and knowing that the conclusion is imminent), it just feels like Joker hasn't actually done very much.

    Anyone else feel this way?

i think i felt the same way too and also with the night of owls.

the reason for that which comes to mind is with all the tie-ins we suddenly get so much exposure and different interpretations of the same character that it really confuses me....if you look solely on the "Batman" titles, the story is well paced and is brilliantly setting up for the end....and besides the impatience in us that wants to see the end of the event may also be the cause making it feel dragged a bit.

It's status as an event that has tie inns is it's greatest weakness.Just a few months ago I was eagerly anticipating Snyder's Joker story but now I cant even open a DOTF book without groaning,he's everywhere. It's like they're trying to shove the fact that Jokers the most dangerous, cleverest manipulator ever down our throats and it's annoying.Detective comics had the best tie inn IMO.

Most importantly Snyder has his own vision for the Joker, with all these tie inns it's a lose-lose situation for his story cause other writers have either written Joker better(Tomasi) or worse(everyone else).

I have just stuck with the Batman and Nightwing titles(those are the two Bat family titles I read anyhow), so I have not been overwhelmed with the Joker but I can certainly see how it could wear on some people. Good story to me but I am always glad to see a story wrap up and move on to something new.

The tie ins are the problem. If you just follow Scott Snyder's work its more enjoyable

The tie ins are horrible. Especially the catwoman ones. I guess random tie ins may be necessary to make us wonder who the victims are going to be. Plus it only makes sense for the readers of the regular series. For example, if someone only reads Nightwing it would be bonkers for Nightwing to be killed off in Batman without some sort of tie in with Nightwing's regular series.

As was recommended by many viners before DOTF started, try to avoid tie-ins, and stick to what's going on in the Snyder books.

@feebadger: I'm not particularly disappointed because my hopes were never very high. Snyder has his own unique vision of Batman and Gotham and all the surrounding mythos that just doesn't jive with me. I wouldn't call the writing bad and I love Capullo's art work, but most if not all of Snyder's characterizations fail to ring to true to me. There are times when I'm reading DOTF that I just cringe.

    I am a bit dissapointed.

DC had created so much hype that i was expecting the best Joker story of the decade!

I believe the Tie ins killed the story,it would be so much better if this story was only in one book and we saw everything there!

Anyway Snyder has one issue to prove me wrong.

Like everyone else, I think the tie ins have been messing with Snyder's story.

Also, I kind of got uncomfortable when the Joker talked about kissing his king (Batman #15): "You'll thank me when you see it Bats! You will! You might even kiss my hand! As I just kissed yours, my lord, hee, hee!" Other than that part though, the lovy dovy talk isn't bad. It adds another facet to the relationship between Batman and the Joker. Maybe Snyder is even purposely making readers uneasy.

My favorite part of the arc so far is the Joker's appearance in the GCPD precinct. Some of my favorite dialogue ever.

I think #17 will be the best issue though. With all of the loose ends to tie up, I think something important is bound to happen.

I'm not totally caught up with the book, but so far so good. It's not spectacular. I'm not the biggest fan of the way Snyder writes the Joker, however it's enjoyable.

Of my monthly books (granted they are few) Batman is easily my most anticipated every time it comes around. So, to answer the question more succinctly, no, I am not disappointed with Death in the Family. That might be helped by the fact that I have zero intention of reading any of the tie in books.

It's not the best event i've ever read, and it's not the worst. I really didn't go into this expecting much to be honest. Not even because I don't like Snyder or hated Court of the Owls, but because when DC hypes things very strongly i've just come to not expect it to pan out. The main title itself is good. I enjoy Snyder's writing of the Joker, but it really is the ties ins that do harm to this event.

I don't read 'Batman' per se, but the DOTF is kinda messing up Batgirl and Catwoman. Feels like its dragging on a bit.

I've loved it. It's not perfect, but most of it's been great. I'd say Teen Titans and B&R are the only bits I've not thought were awesome.

was a bit gutted that they didn't carry on with Catwoman in the series, and Batgirl has been one of my favorite parts!

Since the crossover is about death, I was expecting Joker to kill dick, jason, tim, damian, batgirl, batwoman, etc. and only Batman will be left alive and the comics will become more similar to the Nolan movie universe. Oh well, Maybe next time.

I agree with the consensus that the poor tie-ins are the culprit.

Frankly, I would have much rather seen this as a two-writer collaboration with Snyder and Tomasi. Let one of those guys write an additional issue to tie-up how the other Bat family members get caught and it would have been way better than the clusterf*** that were these tie-ins. All this mediocre talent really muddled the event.

I'm not digging it, although the last issue was cool. We have Joker as a superhero, Batman who isn't a detective and forgets his past experiences, only in the last issue to be a superhero to get to joker, to then make an idiotic mistake of just giving himself to joker.
