Batman: Reborn

Now that Battle For The Cowl is over, do we want/need a thread to talk about the "new" Batman and Robin?  I've done a video review for the first issue but I've been struggling with the video player for the past few hours.

Do you like where this is going?  What do you think of the new Dynamic Duo?

In an interesting note, DC's blog gave a potential bit of a SPOILER.  They mentioned that, "Bruce Wayne is trapped in the past. The Caped Crusader is missing."

Some speculated that he was on another Earth.

Well, kinda of. They left the door open for a return story from day one. In my opinion that makes it a 'when' and not an 'if' Bruce returns.

On the other hand, this might explain the Batman in Barcelona one-shot (though I don't think they bothered with canon in this case).
It's possible that Bruce's trip to Barcelona was something he did in the past and is reliving in a way in his current state.

Either way I'm looking forward to the new Batman and Robin and I think how well it does will decide whether we see Bruce back (or how soon we see him back).

It's pretty safe to say he won't be back for at least a year according to one source.

I really enjoyed this issue with Morrison at the helm, art was really nice. That preview page had me flipping out, Damian Walking Out? The Red Hood with a sidekick? Lazarus Pit? Dr. Hurt has the keys to Wayne Manor? Gaaaaaaah! Excitement!

This issue was.....................BADASS!! Now I can admit I hated the thought of Nightwing becoming Batman and didn't mind saying it every chance I got. But if the first issue is any indication of things to come then I'm not only gettin on the bandwagon, I'mma drive that b!tch. Loved the art. Thats always a big thing for me. Actually its a major thing. i also thought it was cool that they moved their base of operations so to speak. However I can see the Damian/Nightwing banter getting annoying real quick. They dont always have to write Damian as such a spoiled lil b!tch. There are a couple scenes in which he's written really well in his interactions with Alfred. Seems like maybe the type of early relationship Bruce Wayne would have had with him as a child (after his parents death). But when he's with Grayson he's always gotta open his mouth. Hopefully they mesh a lil better in the future. Now on to the villains in this issue. What..........the..........$#@! Seriously? Sure its a little early to pass judgment but come on. But all in all I thought this issue was really well written and I was pleasantly surprised. Grant Morrison continues to roll like a boss. 5 outta 5

The previews posted up top look sick. Especially the Dr. Hurt panel.

well according to Morrison the reason he wanted this dynamic duo was about what they could bring. Originally Batman was a dark character that started to go too over the edge until Robin showed up and helped Batman keep himself in check and light up a little bit.

This time it's the complete opposite. Batman is a lighthearted man and Robin is way darker and more agressive. That should open quite a few dynamics that couldn't have come with Bruce as Batman or Tim as Robin

I thought it was quite evident that he was sent back in time/past, hence the cave/drawings, neanderthal dude?

Alright...so I was going to pass on this series. But the guys at the comic shop told me Gran Morrison was involved and since he is one of my favorite writers(Marvel Boy) I figured I'd give it a shot. It wasn't my favorite issue this week, but I actually enjoyed it more than I thought I would. The new team of Batman and Robin will be interesting to see how they fill the roles.

it was better then what i was expecting...i'll give it that much....it's going to take some time to get used to Dick's attitude as Batman....and I will never change my opinion on Quietly's art....I hate it....but i'm willing to look past it and give the book a chance for an arc or two and see what happens

Quitely's art worked out amazingly. At first I thought it was going to look like ass.

I thought the art work was okay but it kinda grew on me as the issue progressed. The issue was good enough for me to buy it for a  couple more months

I loved this issue a lot and it got me excited for the next issue. Dick was interesting as a more laid back Batman and Damien was awesome, he was like a mini Bruce all through out this issue. I can't wait to see the Red Hood and Scarlet team (even though Red Hood's costume was stupid). I can't wait for the next issue.

It's a really good title and I love it, but I may be a little bias on a Batman. I think any reader would like it since it's both a bit campy while being extremely creepy and disturbing at the same time. If you don't know anything about batman you might be confused by future events but it shouldn't be that big of a problem. Overall I think this book has something for any older reader and you should pick it up. Either way it's only three dollars and will probably take you only twenty minutes to read so it's not like it's a huge risk if you don't like the first issue.

If you mean a book with 'Bruce Wayne' starting out as batman then 'Batman: Year One' is what your looking for. I haven't read it but I've heard that it's great. There's also 'The Man who Laughs' which is about when the Joker started, this book is short and an average story, I would just read it in a border's without paying for it. There is also the "Long Halloween" which the Dark Knight was loosely based off of, this book features a semi-new Batman and the birth of Two-face, this is one of my favorite books. While if your talking about the new Batman then yes 'Batman and Robin' is the first Batman book with Dick Grayson (the first Robin) as batman and Damien( Batman's illegitament son) as the 5th Robin. But next week in the normal Batman comic series, Dick and Damien start out their first run as Batman and Robin. This is a of a continuation of the series however, so I would either read the Battle for the Cowl arc first, or just read about the arc on Wikipedia or a site that gives out stories and spoilers. In short all you would have to know before reading is that Batman is dead and Gotham is going crazy. All of Arkham Asylum's inmates have been broken out by a new Black Mask (see character facts from this site), meanwhile Dick is trying to decide whether he should be Batman or not. However Jason Todd ( the second Robin) has taken Batman's identity and is killing any criminal that he sees. Dick then fights Jason, Jason supposidly dies by falling in a river, and Dick becomes Batman with Damien as Robin. Next week is about how they take to the streets to stop all of the chaos and stop the Black Mask. That's all you really have to know to read about the new Batman and Robin. Hope it's useful. :)

I'm okay with the art its fine it works for this book. Interested too see where they are going with the new Villain, Pig. He seems pretty twisted. Still getting use to Dick as Batman, but I think it is too early to judge from just one book. The dude has only been Batman for a week.

IMO Damien is really annoying. But I feel it is also a little too soon to judge him as Robin, and he is the first Robin who has ever been lik this so it will take some geting use too.

Not sure who Scarlet is actually. On dccomics.com in the preview to B&R # 3 (i think) it said introducing Scarlet....I'm assuming its the side kick to the Red Hood Guy

Pyg seems like a great new villain.
I have to say that I really really like some of Morrison's creations.

loved the comic.

Loved dick and Damien as the new Duo.

Where did Damien learn the automotive and technical stuff that bruce couldnt do for the batmobile? I think its a cool idea for the batmobile but they changed the look to much. Its to rounded. should have points. It reminds me of the old old batmobile before Jack Nicholson was the Joker. I guess the Batman was Adam West.

I think they should have mentioned what Tim is doin now. Also they should have the Justice League confront the new Batman or atleast Kal-el go talk to Dick and ask if that is really what he wants and show his support.

I am happy with the art but there is something about it that makes me feel like it should be darker. More gotham less Metropolis like.

I like Damien, I know he is alot like Jason in many ways but they are also completely different in many ways. This can also show what Jason could have been if he stuck with the bat.
