In the comics Ace is a villain but in the DC Animated Universe, Ace is a creation of Project Cadmus who possess powers that can create illusions in the human mind. She stopped the Joker after he manipulated her and some years later, Ace's powers grew to the point that she can make anything real. However her powers were causing her to die and a psychic black lash would kill anyone in a miles range. Batman volunteered to be her executioner. But Batman doesn't kill her but stays with her till she undo the illusions and dies peacefully without the black lash.
