Batman loses against Bane and Bane cripples Batman. Jean-Paul Valley a.k.a. Azrael became the new Batman and defeated Bane. After Bruce Wayne recovered, he fought Valley and became Batman again.

After a devastating earthquake, Gotham is declared a disaster zone and closed to the outside world.
