Wow, this issue is great. It really is.
It starts off with both Jim Gordon and Bruce Wayne entering Gotham City, both aware of the corruption. Both start trying to do what they can to start fixing it however they can.
When Gordon's lack of corruption is evident to his fellow cops, they jump him. They beat him up, but not enough to land him in the hospital. They also threaten his family. Later that night, Gordon returns the favor to his partner, Flass, who was the one who called the other cops to jump him. He knows that he'd have nothing to worry about from Flass anymore, seeing how badly he humiliated him.
Elsewhere, Wayne starts to venture through the worst areas of the city. After Bruce beats up a pimp that's employing a child prostitute, he learns something; he needs the element of fear. At the end of the issue, his sign finally appears to him, a bat flies through his window, lands on a table, and stares at the billionaire.
Whoops, forgot to mention that there's some foreshadowing for Selina Kyle as well.
So anyway, this comic is the first to get a perfect score from me. There honestly isn't anything I can think of that could improove this. I mean, I usually dislike the artwork of mainstream comics, but Mazzucchelli is very likeable! And it's a good thing they used him, too! Miller's stuff burns my eyes.

this is the first issue of frank miller's dark, gritty fashion that rings true to the evolution of the modern comic . This comic shows both bruce and gordon arriving in to gotham. Frank miller compares both of them by having them comment on the crime and corruption that the city is filled with and both trying to figure out how to stop it and live within Gotham. Gordan gets beaten up by Flass and bruce gets stabbed by a young prostitute and then it comes to him through the window: a bat. this comic is pure legendary in the batman mythos created by frank miller, who writes with a great sense of darkness ,and david mazzuchelli, who brings art to match the atmosphere
