"Game on."
The Original Dark Knight returns to step up his crusade on crime.
Pros:
The opening has somewhat of a touch of Frank Miller's classic Batman Year One which is perfect to start of with. Now that Bruce Wayne is back, he's taking charge of the Bat group and Wayne Enterprise to begin his work with Batman Inc. Apparently more changes are headed for another member of the Bat group. Stephanie may be going to England sometime soon, so I'll be watching out for that in her series. Despite my dislike of Damian, I was glad to see some form of Father and son time between him and Bruce. Normal activates with a father and son would usually be playing catch, fishing, or even go see a game together, but not with these two. Knowing Bruce, it was some sort of test.
We also see a first look at a new villain for Batman and the group he's in league with. He looks cross between a cylon, a terrorist, and Batman. I don't know how this Leviathan group will act, but it can't be as worst than Ra's al Ghul's League of Assassins right? Time will only tell.
The art team did a superb job with the artwork. David Finch’s fully detailed penciling on the costumes and backgrounds, amped by Batt, and Winn Marts, and finally add the coloring by Peter Steigerwald. It definitely shapes the mood and tone for this issue.
Cons:
This issue serves more as a prequel to Batman Inc. more than an actual return of Bruce Wayne. I was kind of expecting an more hands on approach to why the sudden changes in Bruce crime fighting rather than a whole look at Batman new arsenal. And you couldn't add Red Robin in a conversation instead of cameo for two pages? Really?
Overall: Despite my complaint about this being more of a prequel to Batman Inc. this is still a good issue before Batman Inc. starts.
