It's snowing Joker calling cards this Chirstmas.
In the Long Halloween, the key to its success was the pacing. The build up for one full year, Halloween to Halloween. At Christmas time, The Joker and Calender Man become major players. Calender Man because of his obsession with dates and crimes on important dates. The Joker because the Joker is simply nuts.
Another key to the Long Halloween's success is the noir story telling. There are scenes in which we see only the killers gun and victims piling up making us want more. That is what this issue does, it makes us want more. What will the Joker do in New Years, because of a mistake on his behalf his calling cards was left at the scene of the crime.
There is more plot development in this issue and still no answers. The Long Halloween is a great narrative effort by Jeph Loebs script that Tim Sale perfectly brings to life in a shadowy noir tale where no one can be trusted. Not D.A. Harvey Dent, not any of the crime bosses and most definitely not the Joker. This issue makes me want to read New Years now, but I have to wait.... again its all a waiting game with the Long Halloween.
Happy Holidays, Cheers!
