Ethan Van Sciver joins BATMAN: THE DARK KNIGHT

BATMAN: THE DARK KNIGHT is going to receive a whole new look as artist Ethan Van Sciver teams up with New York Times bestselling writer Gregg Hurwitz.  Van Sciver will jump on-board with issue #16 and the story will surround the Mad Hatter
Speaking with Comic Book Resources, Van Sciver says this will be a brand new look at the longtime Bat villain.

“It really is going to be a revelation to a lot of Batman fans who have seen this villain around for a long time but haven't given as much thought as to what makes him tick. We're inventing a lot of things as we go along with it.”

Issue #16 won't hit shelves until January 30, so here's a look at Van Sciver's cover to help ease the wait.

that ethan is pretty good. i was going through some of my back issue and i kept finding interesting covers done by him.

I think his style isn't gritty enough for Batman. Would love if he was on a book that wasn't the big three.

the mad hatter returns? it'll be interesting to see how they modernize him.

@mightypug78: This isn't the Mad Hatter's first appearance in the new52. He was in issue 8 of Batman Dark Knight and in the Detective Comics Annual.

Seems odd after they only just got a new creative team.

Oh, well, Ethan Van Sciver is a great artist!

Hopefully they'll announce who the secondary artist is as well. Van Sciver has talked about how it's just not possible for him to work on a monthly basis, especially since he's started taking his health more seriously.

I like greg's bat title because he gives the villain more spotlight.

batman: tdk is essentially the better book if you like bat villains

They only replaced the artist, Gregg Hurwitz is still the regular writer, so it's not an all-new creative team. Plus, it was kinda obvious Finch was leaving this title since he's going to JLA.

Good! I'm not sure about the creative team, but it way past time somebody give Mad Hatter a decent back story.

It's not awful. It's not great, but it's not awful.

Gosh this reminds me that I need to get the Batman: Through the Looking Glass TP sometime. The cover looks good...just not spectacular to me.

So I'm guessing Finch is off the book?

Even though he isn't a huge Batman villain, I'm excited to see the Mad Hatter, I'm pretty sure it has been forever since he's been in a book, feels that way.

I'm guessing EVS has been working on this in advance? He is delay prone.

Nice change. Even though I think he'd be better for JLA than Finch.

Cool! Mad Hatter finally making a appearance.

Well I would prefer to stop this series. Already having enough batman on plate!
