Review - Batman Inc. no.5
Cover:
Batman Inc. covers have always been somewhere between retro and modern and the colors and art just seems to blend in great. Right on the cover you get to see a new "rookie" for Batman Inc and inside there's a tad bit more info on what's going on.
The Good:
This issue and the last one I can't help but feel that all the attention is focused at Batwoman, or rather this new person who took the cape and name. I can't really say that there's much other good except how Batwoman is pushed in the spotlight and shown to be able to handle herself very well and I think that's the best this comic has to offer.
The Bad:
Unfortunately except Batwoman everyone else is left pretty much undeveloped. There isn't not enough character development and the plot seems to go nowhere. The Hood seems like an interesting character but there's just so very little shown of him. These past 2 issues seemed more like Batwoman 1&2 rather than solving a mystery on a global scale and recruiting new potential Batmen to fight crime. You'll be left with more questions after you've finished reading then before you started. The action pieces don't come well together and there's a lot of things that just don't make sense.
Also the art was a mess in this issue, everything lacked detail and felt rushed. The character's facial expressions were all very static and they looked very rigid.
Overall:
Personally I was hyped about Batman Inc and I really wanted to see this series but now, they took it in a completely new direction that doesn't "feel" like Batman. It's all one fight after another tied together with incoherent plot and mediocre dialogue.
I give it a 2/5.
