Another fascinating issue about Gotham City

Synopsis: More of Gotham City's history is revealed.

    What's Good?

I can say that without the history background of Gotham City in the beginning of this issue, this story would be just as great. However, thanks to it, we get a sense that Gotham City was supposed to be the ideal place due to its promise of a, "City of the Clouds".  As I wrote in the previous issue, There are so many secrets rarely touched on about Gotham City that makes this mini-series so great to rediscover them. Seeing Gotham City in the 1800s slowly rise up from the ground is a nice touch. The two brothers who helped build Gotham City along with the three families who commissioned them-The Waynes, Eillots, and Cobblepots will most definitely play a role as this series continue.

Back to the present, The Bat gang continues to deal with the attacks dealt by the mysterious masked man. Everyone is playing a part including Cassandra Cain. The interaction between her and Damian is one that a lot of fans of both characters were looking forward to, and it does not disappoint. Meanwhile, Dick continues playing the detective. The gang are at a huge disadvantage with this case, and seeing more of these buildings being destroyed are making them feel even worse. Like how the old movie theatre plays a role in Bruce's life, these buildings play a symbolic role for Gotham.

I'm really enjoying Trevor Mccarthy's work in this series. He takes a surreal like approach blending in his cartoony, but well drawn characters into a different Gotham City that's not seen before. The background looks amazing with the many different city structures, both in the flashbacks and present. It makes Gotham seem bigger. All of this is nicely brought out by Guy Major's colors.

    What's Bad?

Nothing. You might want to reread the first issue just to reexamine the plot.

Overall: Scott Synder and Kyle Higgins are redefining Gotham City once more. The story is continuing to build up

The batfamily must scramble to stop the mysterious individual(s?) behind the bombings in Gotham.   The Good McCarthy's creating some excellent covers for this series.   McCarthy's pencils and Major's colors mesh beautifully together to deliver a lush, animated feel to this story. The look of this book really is something fresh, unique, and yet it's oddly familiar and nostalgic. Anybody who was a fan of Batman TAS or Batman Beyond will instantly fall in love with the art on this book. The faded, ...
