"A Nice Chat. Face to face..." - Joker
The Death of the Family continues! If you have not heard yet, Joker has returned and he is back to restore order? What kind of plan does Joker have in store for Batman and his allies? And how will Batman stop the Clown Prince of Crime this time? All we can expect is that Joker is not going down without a fight. Scott Snyder, Greg Capullo, and Jonathan Glapion return to bring another thought-provoking story.
The Good
Snyder has done an outstanding job with Joker's character. His version of Joker reflects past incarnations of the character, however Snyder twists his main qualities to fit the story being told. Ultimately, making it seem as if the character has just been introduced. Making the Death of the Family story arc even more exciting! There is not much to say for this issue without giving too much away. One thing I will say is that a major part of Joker's plan has come into the light.
James Tynion IV and Scott Snyder's side story continues. The two writers delve further into the Joker's plan and slowly, but steadily, Joker's interaction with other minor characters in this series is making sense. While not as thought-provoking as the last side story, the writers did do a good job with the cliffhanger ending. If anything, the side story portion of the comic is still worth reading.
The artwork is still top-notch. With the powerful story telling comes the equally powerful artwork. Greg Capullo's pencils are unique and memorable, the colors flow perfectly with the Glapion's inks. There is not much you can say about the main story artwork, every issue has the special care and attention in terms of art. If I could some up Jock's side story artwork with only one word: breathtaking.
The Bad
The side story was okay, it could have been better. However, it was probably a necessary step in telling more about Joker.
The Verdict
If you are still contemplating on reading this series or not, you are missing out on a prime opportunity to enjoy a legend in the making. Overall 5 out of 5.
