Beautiful Characterization
This was a great story, but it seems to have never gotten much attention. The story examines how Batman would react if he were to learn he was dieing, and yet there was an innocent life still on the line.
The art didn't seem like anything special to me, though it wasn't terrible. But I choose this comic because of its writing. The villain we actually spend the most time with is not one of the major three we see on the cover, but rather a new smaller scale criminal. Yet don't get me wrong, he is a strong villain, and the things done in the story to the victims really got feeling for them me in this story. I wanted to see them saved, and our hope lies on a Batman, who can barely function though much of the story struggle to do his mission. Meanwhile see Robin and Gordon, trying to figure out a way to help Batman himself.
The biggest thing that hit me with Batman: DOA was how it examined the difference between Bruce and Batman in his last day of life. Batman will not die, he will keep fighting until his job is done, and his job is never done. Bruce, on the other hand, wants to step into the light, with his parents. There is a great shot with Bruce, looking like a boy again, is trying to run to his parents, yet batman is holding onto him. Bruce says, "I can't come. Hes holding me..... Hes too strong."
I just thought that was spot on characterization for Bruce and Batman. I loved this story and I'll hope you will pick it up and feel the same!
