The moment fans of the show have been waiting for, Terry McGinnis vs. the Justice League.
The Good
We all know that when Bruce Wayne was Batman, he could take on anyone. He had a plan of attack ready when facing pretty much any foe. Now that he's guiding Terry in the high-tech Bat-suit, Terry has Bruce's strategic mind at his disposal.
In the previous issue, Terry's family is stuck in a hostage situation. Their lives are in danger and the only thing standing between him and saving them is the Justice League. This is where the coolness comes in. Terry has to take out the Justice League. Can he, with Bruce's help, do it?
The Bad
Even though the first issue took place two weeks after the six-issue miniseries, the vibe here still feels completely different. The miniseries had a darker tone, dealing with deadly threats and the dark past of some Batman characters. This issue and the previous feel closer to the mood of the cartoon. That's not a bad thing but it lighter. I thought the miniseries took the franchise forward a little and this felt like it's bringing it back to the animated series.
The Verdict
The opening pages is worth the price of admission. Seeing Bruce Wayne issue strategic orders to Terry when fighting the Justice League reminds us that despite being old, he is still a deadly force. Terry may have been active as
Batman for a bit now but he still hasn't quite reached the status that Bruce Wayne achieved early on. Showing how quickly he can handle the situation he's involved in shows that he just might be on his way there. This series continues to feel lighter in tone that the previous miniseries and manages to keep the feel from the animated series. Terry might have been able to deal with his skirmish in the beginning of the issue but the way it ends, he's going to need all the help he can get.
