Who Will Win?
I recently started investigating digital comics so I could be able to read the new Justice League Beyond and the new Batman Beyond comic series which is offered online. In my investigations, I discovered Comixology was offering a free digital copy of this #1 issue, so I had to read this...
The Art
Overall, this comic was good. The art was similar to the actual tv show, which was good. The penciler and inker both had done work on the Batman TAS comics, so this art also looks similar to that series. All the colors are very vibrant and are quite appealing to look at.
The Writing
I have read Hilary J. Bader's work previously on the Batman TAS, so I can say she is a nice writer for this genre of comics (animated tv show based comics). It has the same flair as the tv and some of its humor. The story itself is laid out like an epiode of a tv show where we start at the middle and then we jump to the beginning so we can understand how the events played out at they did. I haven't seen this approach done with comics before (I'm sure its been done, but I haven't read any previously), but it does fit the story well enough.
Conclusion
This isn't a master piece issue, but it is a nice all ages comic. I enjoyed this issue. It had some cool battle scenes between the two Batmen. The fight highlighted the two different fighting techniques of the two Bats, which was cool. I do wish it was longer. The only complaint I can think of is the coloring of Spellbinder (he's orange, not red!), but that is only minor. Overall, and considering the age demographic this comic hoped to focus on, this is a good issue.
