Continues to surprise me from issue to issue.
Batman Arkham City has been a surprisingly good prequel to the upcoming video game. It's a stand alone mini-series that's not's part of the main Batman continuity but has managed to capture much of what makes the Bat world great. From issue to issue, I've waited for the series to fall apart but it's continued to provide a fun and entertaining escape.
Paul Dini has done an amazing job taking a ridiculous concept and making it a fun read. This issue is no different except for the fact that there is hardly any story progression. It's basically several action sequences with a cool Joker scene thrown in and the only significant moment is Batman finding out who is really controlling Arkham City. But while we are given almost no new information, we get plenty of action, some good character interaction, and an overall fun experience.
I've grown to enjoy Carlos D'Anda's art more and more with each passing issue. He uses a slick, polished, and almost cartoony style that works really well with this story. I particularly like his depiction of the characters. This isn't a style that I would want to see every day but there's no denying that it's a perfect fit here.
Many people continue to pass over this title and that's a shame. There really is a lot to like here. That said, with only one issue left, I'm starting to wonder if it will be worth reading unless you plan on getting the Arkham City game. But since it's intended to be a bridge between the two games, I think it's succeeding in what it has set out to do.
