This is the book that sparked my brand new love-affair with graphic novels. I have a hard time believing I've never read this before.

I think it would be impossible for me to write a review about Arkham Asylum without mentioning the art of Dave McKean. I've always been a huge fan of McKean's work and of course this graphic novel is no exception. Every single panel from the first to the last page is breathtakingly illustrated and perfectly conveys the dark and twisted tone of the story. Everything blends so well together and the art supports the written words so perfectly that I can't even imagine what this book would be like had it been illustrated by anyone else. It's a perfect match.

If you're looking for something haunting and disturbing, this is a must-read.
