Frazer Irving will be going a little batty soon. Not only will he be taking over BATMAN AND ROBIN after Andy Clarke’s finished with the title, he’ll also be contributing to the BATMAN: THE RETURN OF BRUCE WAYNE mini. But my word isn't adequate, huh? You demand ocular proof, huh? How about one of Mr. Irving’s covers for the series, straight from the Source, eh?
You’ll know Irving most recently from his stint on Archaia’s DAYS MISSING series, but he also drew KLARION THE WITCH BOY a few years ago for the SEVEN SOLDIERS “mega series.” Perhaps you’ll recall that Grant Morrison masterminded that storyline, so this title will be something of a reunion of the two. I’m pretty pleased with this announcement, as KLARION was one of the best S7 titles along with FRANKENSTEIN! with Doug Mahnke and THE MANHATTAN GUARDIAN with Cameron Stewart (another BATMAN & ROBIN artist, whom we had the pleasure of talking to on our podcast last week).
As I mentioned, Irving will illustrate an issue of BATMAN: THE RETURN OF BRUCE WAYNE, which’s line-up is comprised a revolving door of a half-dozen awesome artists. The line-up goes a little something like this…
#1: Chris Sprouse
#2: Frazer Irving
#3: Yanick Paquette
#4: Cameron Stewart
#5: Ryan Sook
#6: Lee Garbett
Interesting… this is something of a 4/7th SEVEN SOLDIERS reunion since, in addition to Stewart handling MANHATTEN GUARDIAN, Yanick Paquette did BULLETEER and Ryan Sook handled ZATANNA. I don’t suspect there are going to be too many references to the storyline peppered throughout this mini, although I don’t suppose it’s an accident that Irving did the pseudo-Colonial KLARION and his cover above features Mr. Wayne in pilgrim’s garb.
