i'll be honest Grant Morrison scares me.... in the months of Final Crisis and R.I.P I was a nervous wreck! I find his work exciting and complex to say the least. The last year I have been drawn to it. Thats why i could'nt resist buying this Batman and Robin. I must say i was surprised. I didnt think id like it as much as i did.
It gets straight into the action...BOOM!...the new bat mobile/ batwing is spectacular...BWKSSSSSSSssssssss!......the first chase scene really gets you fired up for the rest of the comic. At first I think Dick and Damian look comftable in their new roles as Batman and Robin, they share abit of banter and then you get a real sense of unity and understanding between the two as they take down Mr. Toad. Its only when the mask is off when the cracks start to show. It becomes clear that Dick is still not over Bruce's disapearance shall we say, (i dont like saying death), and feels as if he is betraying Bruce.
The new Villian Pyg seems a worthy apponent for the new duo, with a frightening end to the first issue, Batman and Robin are dealing with a real Psycopath. Things can only get better for this new series...so stay tuned!

Let me just begin by letting you know that my review may seem a bit too positive, partly due to the fact that i am a very big fan of both Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely. If you have been following the recent news about the caped crusader, you will most likely know that this story is set right after the hit or miss "Battle for the Cowl"; as well as the well received "What ever happened to the Caped Crusader". To simply cut to the point, Batman and Robin was able to get me wanting more after i finished it. While i am not entirely sure where Morrison is going, i am ready and willing to follow. Some interesting things about the new Batman and Robin is that the dynamic duo face off against a whole new cast of villains. I suppose while i was at first a little disappointed that the duo's first opponent wouldn't be a legendary rogue such as The Joker, Two Face, or Raas al Guul, my frustration was gone after reading the first page. I applaud Morrison for starting the Batman on a fresh path, I also enjoyed Quitely's art which is like candy for the eyes. This is the beggining of a new Era people, Gothom City Is a different place now; One thing for sure is there will always be a Batman to protect it.

comics greatest team returns but with a differant man behind the cowl. And not just that two excellent people are behind the first issue which i think are becoming comicdom greatest team: grant morrison and frank quitely. morrison bring beautiful writing and quitely art that is equally beautifull. My favourite line is "Together again for the first time" excellent fightscenes. An excellent way to kickstart a new batman series

Hearkening back to Batman's lavish technicolor yesteryear, the creative dynamic duo of Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely serve fans a new ongoing series full of quirky camp, retro psychedelia, and some very creepy and very edgy new villains. And no one can write Damian Wayne's caustic, know-it-all dialogue like Morrison.
Though, a short read, you'll find yourself paging back through this issue many times over just to absorb all of Quitely's fantastic nuanced pop art. It's a must have for any comic fan.

I love Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely. I mere mention that they might be working on a new project together has keep me excited for months and on Wednesday when I picked this issue up I dove right in. Part of liking Grant Morrison is knowing that he isn't for everyone. After Batman R.I.P. and Final Crisis I think Mr. Morrison was under a great deal of pressure to take Batman in a new direction. This book does that about as well as I think is possible. Morrison does a good job of demenstating how the new Batman and Robin interact, showing that Gotham has "moved on" since the Caped Crusader bought it, and introducing new villians (which might as well be characters for the Filth) but that's it... and that's fine. If Morrison and Quitely chose to do any more in this issue I think it would have suffered. That being said I look forward to deeper storylines as the series continues. This is a good comic book that gets me really excited for further issues.

well wot can i say i love grant morrison and frank quitely!!!!!this comic has become one of my favourite so far!!!!!!! grant morrison creates a very good introduction of the the characters. Dick grayson is becoming one of my favourite batman related characters and for some strange reason damian is becoming one of my favourite characters as well even though he is not very popular with lots of people right at the moment... so i gave it a 5 out of 5, just to add to that the art is looksing good too,The issue makes me want to see more im glad grant morrison and frank quitely have created this title because it shows a very unique dymanic between this batman and robin. lets hope the next issue is very decent as this one is !!!!!!!!

When I saw the previews on Comicvine I wasn't too excited. I thought the art work would be sub par. I gave in and decided to give it a try. I found it befitting that DC brought back Morrison to kick this series off since RIP. I enjoyed the banter between the duo because it provides a fresh prospective. The story itself was nothing ground breaking but it seemed to set the tone. As the issue progressed the art work kinda grew on me. It'sAll in all a decent issue.

Because I hadn't read Batman, R.I.P. or Battle for the Cowl, I really didn't think I'd see myself picking this up. But, I remembered that I really hate it when somebody calls in on the request line and asks for "Convoy" or "Angels Flying Too Close To The Ground". The worst is when somebody calls for "You Don't Have To Call Me Darlin'" or "The Ride". Don't these people know that time has moved on since Johnny Cash, Waylon and Willie, Merle, David Allan Coe and C. W. McCall were big? It's not 1979 anymore. (Or 1966, or 1939 either.) So, if I'm gonna be all about the latest from Carrie Underwood, Kelly Pickler and keith urban, why wouldn't I be all about another go 'round for Dick as Batman and Damian as the new Boy Wonder? Bruce Wayne has had his day. It was a very long and distinguished day as The Dark Knight. Aside from the question of whether or not anyone can replace him as Batman - it's not like this is Green Lantern we're talking about - the story of Batman is a personal story of overcoming grief through retaliation and vengeance...or something like that. Maybe Dick is the only one that understands that kind of mission, and can take over Bruce's War on Crime...
This issue was a pretty good read. It introduces the Dynamic Duo and their dynamic with each other and Alfred. I'm not really sure I like Damian, but that may be apples to oranges. There's aninteresting new lieutenant Mr. Frog and freaky heavy Pyg. It leaves me wondering where this is going to go from here. I'm always wondering if that's a direction I want to go in - if I want to go along for the ride. You may feel the same way. God bless you if you like Waylon and Merle or Carrie and Kelly.
But, this is an interesting way to kick things off.

Finally! I review a monthly comic before it becomes a paperback!
So the new Dynamic Duo has appeared after the months passed after Bruce Wayne's fake death. Plus, they got a flying Batmobile! Who needs a Batplane when you got that?
Anyway, I was interested in reading this because of the premise, and I'm neutral with Morrison. The last thing I read by him was Batman R.I.P, and while I didn't hate it, I didn't like all of it enough to prevent me from getting my money back. (Some parts in the middle were great, though.) So I decided to give him another chance.
It starts with Dick and Damien taking down a new Frog-Man villain in a really exciting scene. I love the artist's use of sound effects. More people need to do stuff like that! After the criminal is put in jail, we go to a new Batcave location under Wayne Tower, where we have the expected conversation between Dick and Alfred over Bruce's legacy. It's ok.
Elsewhere, one of the henchman is trying to leave town, but is found by Mr. Toad's boss who does some pretty creepy stuff to him and his daughter. And we get a cliffhanger.
This issue was the usual type of set up, and I'll be waiting for part two. I'm still interested in where this will go.

This read a bit quick for me and quick for a Grant Morrison book. It’s basically a set up issue, which is fine as it’s a number 1. I like the little brat Damian as Robin; he is going to be the most entertaining character in this book. The new character Pyg was a cool edition, he is really quite evil. As for the art, it’s not really my cup of tea. Nothing wrong with it I just find Quitely’s art a bit spongy and bubbly which is not my bag. And the book was very colourful. I normally like Batman drawn a bit darker to suit the mood of the character but as this is a new Batman & Robin I will leave judgment on that to later, plus a new artist will be on board for issue 4 anyway. Enjoyable read but nothing spectacular.
