Robin is dead, but not for long! (Pt.3): To Hell...
Batman is going to Apokolips to resurrect his son, but before he does that, Batman has to make sure that Gotham is looked after.
The Good
So in this issue, Batman gets all his ducks in order. First off, Batman talks to Red Hood, Red Robin, and Batgirl about protecting Gotham City while Batman is gone; but, if the team doesn't hear back from Batman, they should assume that he's dead and have Dick Grayson to continue Bruce's legacy as Batman. It was very personal, and awkward, moment between Batman and the Bat-Family, but writer Peter J. Tomasi really did a good job at explaining "Why?" things were so intense! Finally, Batman breaks into the Justice League Watchtower, with a little help from Dick Grayson and Lex Luthor, and leaves for the living Hell planet itself, Apokolips! Yet another [awesome] issue that SHOULD NOT BE PASSED UP!
Writer Peter J. Tomasi, how can I summarize him? Incredible! Already, Tomasi has done an amazing job with the Robin Rises: Omega series! And this is, another issue, that proves "Why?" you should be reading, and buying, what Tomasi is selling here! First of all, Batman and Tomasi. Those two words are enough reason, alone, that you should be reading this series. (Especially if you read Peter J. Tomasi's The Five Stages of Acceptance mini-story arc, that Tomasi created, shortly after Damian died.) Tomasi does an incredible job with this issue, because he knows what kind of Batman the FANS want. Batman isn't this emotionless robot that orders people around [then punches them] for the betterment of Gotham, NO, instead Batman is this very complex character that will lie, only to better, not only Gotham, but for the people closest to him. I really enjoyed seeing Tomasi convey Batman's heavy heart in this issue, and how he justified having Batman go it alone to Apokolips. It was an impressive job on Tomasi's part, and all the characters that was in this issue really made Batman standout as, not only the world's greatest superhero, but world's greatest dad! I recommend you check this issue out to see fully what Peter J. Tomasi did!
Plus, the artwork by Patrick Gleason [with inks by Mick Gray and colors by John Kalisz] was amazing! Only can the art team make little moments, like Batman suiting up in the Hellbat and appearing behind Lex Luthor, look absolutely terrifying and awesome, at the same time!
The Bad
No complaints.
The Verdict
5 out of 5! You should really be reading this series! The next issue is a Futures End tie-in, so that should be interesting. Until next time my friends!
