So the Joker, A Pyg, and a Doctor Hurt walks into a bar...
There was a bad side to having too many Batman titles and finding this issue was the reason. Hidden behind a stack of other Batman related titles I would find myself overlooking this beautiful third part of a beautiful Batman Masterpiece.
As if I thought Batman badguys couldn't get any more......disturbing. This issue would prove me wrong in such a way that I personally couldn't give this comic less than five stars.
There was a phrase that went around saying that all of the DC characters look like models in a way, barely seeing anything unattractive at all. I got this from another website and yes, I highly disagree with that claim. Pyg would prove that statement wrong by a longshot. Before I go into Pyg and the other creepy phantom dramatic theme characters, lets take a look into this comic and see why its worth the time and money.
The Storyline:
Part Two of Batman and Robin must Die, Grant Morrisons storytelling with this issue would be one straight solid story of maniacal mayhem that would actually have me cringing as we see certain situations that I know would be uncomfortably disturbing. Issues like this would have the readers going "Thank god theres a Batman" and that I like alot, a clitche moment that never gets old is how the hero manages to come in the last second and with this comic, you'll never notice because your wishing for that clitche to come in.
Grant would really display something that not describes what I feel like a modern disturbing situation, but his description on the baddies here is really unique and would take abnormal to a whole new level. What I also like about this comic is how he managed to fit the Joker into this storyline. I would say that poor Grayson and Damian would have one hell of a bad situation on their hands with the villain cast that Morrison has introduced.
I love the scene between Damian and the Joker having a crowbar moment, even though this situation was predictable with Jokers Poor Mans Escape tactics, I would enjoy mentioning how this scene would place Damian in the hands of the Joker, but I dislike giving away Spoilers.
Everybody knows that Joker and Robins in the same room equals obsessed violent moments that would have Batman cry at nights in his Batcave.
The Artwork:
If it wasn't Grants Storytelling that convinced me, it sure was Frazer Irvings artwork that would cover that accomplishment. Dark, gothic, and disturbing, I couldn't help but feel like I was reading a horror comic,....AND THAT WAS AWESOME.
Not only did Frazers artwork display such unique scenes and character display, but I would say the highlight of this issue is when he would display Damian, even after becoming a victim of the Joker, I loved how Damian looked like he forced smiling in pain. Frazers highlight would be the scene between the Joker and Damian, that was EPIC for a comic scene. Even how his artwork could define "disturbing" would actually have a minor Batman villain like Professor Pyg reach the top of serious badguys in my book.
The Badguys:
Pyg, is byfar one of the most sickest and twisted villains that I know of right now after reading this issue. All I gotta say, this is a guy who gets his jollies off with something that looks like a SAW trap with a dolly head nailed to the top. Now thats disturbing.
But what really made Pyg and this comic interesting is how much of a threat that a normal man, or men can be for Batman and its wonderful citizens within Gotham.
Dollies give me the creeps by the way.
Doctor Hurt also makes a griming theatrical appearance in this issue, even though this semi Phantom of the Opera isn't much of a highlight nutjob like Pyg and Joker, but his purpose in this issue serves itself pretty well.
As for the J-man himself, he would really take alot of spotlight and we would get to see something that never gets old, Joker on the start of causing mindless chaos.
So with what was supposed to be a villain who was unlikely to return, the Joker, and the theatrical Dr Hurt, I would say that the events of this storyline is really gonna reach skyhigh as one of DC's most awesome storylines.
But for me personally, the one highlight of this comic for me was how we got to see a little bit more of Pygs character and WOW, seeing more of this guys lifestyle is really.......... disturbing. I would say that Pyg is a sadistic, vile, disgusting, masochist that has a thing for mommy, dollies, and of course, barnyard animals. A byproduct of human nature at its worst and of course, he's a Batman badguy.
The Conclusion:
Buy this issue and the recent two issue if you haven't already, if you dislike missing out on something awesome then I would highly advise stop reading this and take your ass to the comic store and buy this and the recent issue. As a comic fan I say its damn well mandatory for you to get this issue, if your a Marvel fan? so what, thats no excuse for you to miss out on this awesome issue. You hate DC? buying this issue may have you hating Marvel, even after reading the newest Spiderman title with its newspaper funnies artwork.
This is a comic, the prime definition of a modern comic that has creativity, talent, and naturalism for the deepest and darkest things about humanity.
Because of this issue and a Green Lantern Comic, I would say that DC won the battle this week, unless you've found a Marvel Comic better than this, then please let me know, and when I mean better, I mean something that an army of comic fans enjoyed besides individually yourself.
Im that Badguy, I review it so you can buy it or trash it, and I thankyou for your time reading my review.
Have a good night and pray that Pyg isn't hiding in your closet at night.
