punyparker's Batman #32 - Zero Year: Savage City, Part Three review

Another excellent entry ,in the Savage City arc

Plot

Simple,really....The "3 wise men",Brucy,Lucious, and Jimmy-Jim are trying to find Eddie, based on what they made previous issue. They think they're ahead, but they forget they have to deal with the freaking Riddler. He knows their plan, and sabotages it.Jim is trapped under the city, and Lucious with Bruce, are trying to deal with what they have.Bruce gives a motivating speach to Lucious,to keep trying, and he,himself,is figuring out where's Eddie hiding, based on a map,of the city(Eddie's city design) he has.And because he's the Goddamn Batman,he finds him.And then the "game" as Eddie calls it,begins.....

Thoughts

It's weird that "Savage City" has got a perfect score, from me,thus far......Snyder's knocking it out of the park with every issue.Keeps you interested, invested in the story, and every issue needs a couple of reads more to understand it better......and that's a good thing, with that book.it's a "Let's see if i missed something" re-read,not a "I didn't understand half of what was going on" re-read.

The writing is top notch.Every character is in-character,and we see everyone evolve.Bruce dropped the "anger management kid" and is walking towards the Batman aspect of his life.We see him evolve and acually change....not drastically, and quickly, which would have been weird and unnatural, but slowly and in a way that makes acual sense. We see Jim trusting Batman, and Batman starting to trust Jim,and the whole relationship coming to full circle, after the hatred he had for him.
Bruce still speaks like a young man,it's visible at some points, but he's walking towards the maturity...you can feel it.

Eddie is a real dick.So props to Snyder.
You get the feeling that this guy is ,out of this world, smart, and nearly un-touchable.And when you get that feeling,BOOM Batman finds him......that's why this thing is epic.

Another one "Past event that will pay off in the future" page here........Bruce handing some money to a hobo, and saying that he's gonna be his new butler.......he's obviously not Alfy, but we can't help but wonder who the hell is he?

Capullo's art is coolnontheless, but it's a tiny bit of a step down from the previous issues.....i don't know,i got that feeling.

Image Notes

How did we get here, after the last page of the previous issue, where they're covered by cars?.....
"Batman" is an entity for ,what, 2 months?....and how many people know that he even exists?...30?...40?..... ok,then HOW does he already has the reputation of a "Great Detective" ?....

What did i say?.... dick!
He can't survive the fall......c'mon.

Maybe it has any connection to the Zero we saw in the previous issue?
1. Probably the best piece of written dialog in the whole Zero Year arc. 2. Someone explain to me the pilot thing,on the side....

HE'S RIGHT THERE!!!!!....APPREHEND HIM!!!....TIE HIM UP!!.....SNAP HIS DAMN NECK!!!!!

Lol at the last caption. Nice review though I'm not the biggest fan of Zero Year myself, he must be doing something right to bowl everyone over.

I picked this title up for Zero Year, and I'll dropped it when its down actually. I hadn't got to the stor in a month so yesterday I read 31 and 32 in one sitting, I loved them both. I did get the a strange feeling of the jump from the underground cars to the tower as well. The plane is because its gonna launch the missiles that crush the tower and sink Gotham into the river. Its clearly outright said like a page or 2 before hand.

Zero Year is coming to an end and it is time for Batman to face off against the Riddler! Writer Scott Snyder and Artist Greg Capullo have been doing an amazing job on this book, and there is a reason it is always in the top 5 best selling comics every month, if not number one. This issue, Batman and company think they are on to the Riddler, but who really is the best detective in Gotham City? Snyder has a fantastic grasp on the Riddler and really plays up our villain's playfu...

However, how does Batman know that it is his plan and not the Riddler's?The GoodBatman and Riddler finally meet face-to-face!Scott Snyder is doing an amazing job with this Zero Year story. He's creating a Batman, or shaping HIS version of the character, to leave his mark that will certainly stay with him for a long while. Zero Year allows Scott Snyder to go past the Year One story and ...
