So Zero Year has came to it's second issue and so far it has been only setup. This story so far has the thing of being like Batman:Year One and some other stories as well and the idea isn't as original as it should be but so far the premise hasn't been that stolen as the last few arcs from SNyder. The story doesn't look as interesting as it should be or as interesting as Snyder thought it would be but it is still something more than what we have seen before.
The story explores more of Bruce's past in Gotham and his return to Gotham as a whole and the start of his vigilante career and ideas. The villains so far are the Red Hood Gang but Riddler is also put in here maybe as a future and concluding villain to the story. It is also interesting to see some small time villains to be the ones that started everything for a big hero like Batman but this has been used so many times. It is cool to see it used and applied for Batman but even this doesn't come off as an original idea from Snyder and everything just reverts back to Death of the Family and the Court of Owls.Everything is ripped off from somewhere else but it comes off as original because this is a reboot and it is considered new for Batman from his new fans.
Even though the fact that I didn't like the fact that there will be such a story and it will be from SNyder so far it hasn't been that bad as I thought it would be.There is a good mystery behind the Red Hood Gang's leader and his identity and that's the thing that I want to find out the most.If it is the Joker or somebody else or just someone new entirely. But the biggest problem I have is the lenght of the story,11 issues comes off as too long for me for such a story and I can't see what new and interesting can Snyder deliver after the 7th or 8th issue.I really hope there is something up in Snyder's sleeve but it can also be some other idea of another writer and he just remakes it into the New 52.
There is some characterization but it has been mostly in the backups which is strange and yet again Tynion proves to us that he can do better work as a Batman writer than Snyder. So far his backups have been way more interesting for me and I would rather see him do something with the character rather than Snyder who just remakes old Batman stories and says that we have never seen story like this and the new Batman fans agree and say that he is the best there is.
The artwork of Greg Capullo is the best thing from the issue and I really like his work on the book as a whole. He has a unique style and I have been loving it so far a lot.His designs of the characters are amazing and I just don't want to see him get off the book because then the book will completely fall in my eyes and I may even drop it.
This even though that it's the second part of a story it's a good jump on point for new readers and everyone who likes to jump in and read he can.The story is not something incredible or unique or even good so far but it can become a lot better.
