What made Bruce Wayne the man he is today? Scott Snyder seeks to answer that question.
The Good
Scott Snyder and company do it again! From the Court of Owls to The Death of The Family, Snyder has been busy in this title creating interesting and new adventures for Batman. However now, we see the origin story of how Bruce Wayne works to become the man we know today. Originally starting in Batman #0, this is one story not to miss!
This issue being an origin story, Scott Snyder is pressured and motivated with creating a great story, but not going overboard on Bruce's origin before becoming Batman. I believe Scott Snyder and his team did a great job on this issue. From the first couple of pages, Snyder builds the premise of how this origin story is going to span out into future issues. One thing that hooked me into this issue was Batman's costume before the story started. It looked totally cool and different from the normal Batman outfit and I really enjoyed how it kicked the reader into this fast paced issue.
The pace of this series is perfect too. Scott Snyder does a great job at giving something readers to look forward to in the beginning of this issue. We see Batman appear in what looks like a more crime ridden Gotham City and Snyder did an outstanding job with Bruce Wayne's story. Especially Bruce escaping from the Red Hood Gang by truck. I'm sure Scott Snyder is having fun writing this series, as much as we love reading it.
This is a great first start to the series and it will be interesting to see what happens next with Bruce!
The artwork by Greg Capullo is phenomenal! I love seeing his artwork on the series because he pays attention to the detail of ever panel that he draws. The colors by FCO add to Capullo's work by making the characters come to life.
Ever wonder how Batman learned to drive 120mph in the streets of Gotham? Scott Snyder and James Tynion IV create a ministory featuring Bruce Wayne's days before returning to Gotham and traveling overseas. The ministory is okay and is worth checking out if you want to see Bruce learning more tools that will [eventually] aid him as Batman. The artwork by Rafael Albuquerque and the colors by Dave McCaig works perfectly for this ministory. The bright colors and the art style make the minstory look like a high-speed car chase.
The Bad
No complaints. This is one of the best issues of the series.
The Verdict
So far the team on this series love to create an outstanding origin issue for Bruce Wayne. This story is not over and we are sure to get answers in the next issues. This is the perfect time for new readers to start reading this series and it has enough action and great story to keep old readers, reading. Overall 5 out of 5.
